Wildcatch Fisheries SA past President and Nuffield scholar, Jonas Woolford has been granted life membership for his persistent and tactful advocacy of the association in state, national and global forums.

Wildcatch Fisheries SA thanks Jonas for his courage, passion, dedication, leadership and vision, and for providing an example of the excellence to which the industry and association aspire.

Jonas, from Streaky Bay received a 2017 Nuffield scholarship supported by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC) and Nuffield Australia to investigate cohesion between primary industry, community and government for the effective co-management of natural resources in the inherently complex seafood industry.

Jonas’ family company harvests wild abalone in the western zone abalone fishery.  The product is processed then exported to South East Asia, mainly Hong Kong.

Jonas’ research is particularly significant for the potential of South Australia’s seafood industry to grow, and provide protein, in an environmentally sustainable way for all Australians and internationally.
