Everything about him tells her to stay away, yet she can’t seem to get the vampire out of her mind.

"You've gotten into my bloodstream"

And this is certainly true for Roman who despite his abhorrence and revulsion at what he conceives Fiona's inner character to be cant seem to get her out of his mind.
And Fiona despite her misgivings and biased prejudice against Vampires is intrigued and also surprised when her misconceptions come crumbling down around her ears.
Her father's efficient brainwashing over time is no longer effective against Romans magnetism and overall charisma.
Roman ultimately needs Fiona to help him achieve his dream, but what starts out as a necessary courting, very swiftly morphs into so much more.
So this was my first book by this author and I found it to be an enjoyable unique take on vampirism.
And while its certainly true I like my fiction to be a little on the dark side.
I still appreciated this much lighter paranormal offering.
I have to say this wasn't quite what I was expecting and though this featured vampires it was a lot less paranormal and more romantic fiction where one half of the couple just happened to be a vampire.
So as I said earlier I did enjoy this and It was an easy read.
The main issue for me was that I wasn't overly fond of Fiona herself, there were times I actually thought she was growing on me.
Then she'd behave idiotically and like a child and I would be back to square one wanting to slap her silly, she was such a spoiled brat.
Roman was also a bit off at times, totally overreacting for really illogical reasons.
This made them both extremely hard to take to and this pulled my enjoyment levels down some.
You might love them, but I definitely struggled.
Then there was that "WTF" moment near the end.

 photo Confusion_zpsnvk4n5k3.gif

There was just no need, I wasn't a fan at all.
So on reflection, this was a good story that I enjoyed, but I would have definitely tweaked some things.
So very much swings and roundabouts for me.
I'm going to go with this if you like sweet romantic fiction with aspects of paranormal then give this a go.
If its something edgier you're after then look elsewhere.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of "Roman" (The Clutch Series Book 1) of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Title: roman
Author: Heidi McLaughlin and Amy Briggs
Genre: Romance, Fantasy
Publication Date: March 29, 2018

ARC

I am honestly going to keep this quite simple;
I refuse, I REFUSE to believe that this is the same author who wrote 'Forever My Girl'.
I absolutely refuse to believe it!

I have never...NEVER hated a female protagonist as much as I hated Fiona. Oh the way this woman annoyed me with the materialistic, childish and her unnecessarily dramatic attitude! She annoys the hell out of me...I am sorry...not sorry but my lord! I can't believe this is the same Heidi McLaughlin who's books I enjoy reading.

Roman, omg...talk about an annoying male protagonist. Stalkerish Much?!

I can't wrap my head around this book! The writing was so simple... nothing wrong with that but come on! I was so shocked by how quickly I finished reading this book because this book was quick and simple to read. And the End... Oh Lord have Mercy on me! I literally went "WTF, like seriously, WTF did I just read?!".

roman was such a disappointment for me and I am shocked!

It's taken me a couple of days to get my head around this one. I adore Heidi McLaughlin--I gobble up her books. I am a HUGE fan of PNR. I wanted to like this soooo much.

I do like the world building. Vampires walk among the humans. They were 'created" by Sisters--the three fates. There are rules in place to keep humans and vamps safe and there are consequences. There are good guys and bad guys. Loved all of that.

I just couldn't connect with Fiona. She was superficial and flat from the start. I suspect there is more to her than we know, but I couldn't see the connection Roman was feeling with her. I never got the sense she was anything more than a means to an end for him even though he was professing an interest beyond that to her. He screws her stupid and then all of a sudden Vampires are all the rage in her world?? I wasn't buying the love connection. It just needed something MORE. Again, maybe just me. I also have no love for Las Vegas. Not interested. Don't care. So all of that together may have soured by outlook on the book.

All that being said, there are some really interesting secondary characters. There is a huge twist in this one that I am curious as to how it plays out. There are a couple of Vampires and Fiona's best friend that I would like to see developed into their own story.

I will read the next in the series just to see how things play out. Not a bad start for a series but not totally my cup of tea.

I love paranormal and I love Heidi McLaughlin and Amy Briggs and this is a good story. Vampires walk among humans, but they are treated like second-class citizens. Roman needs the casino licenses to start up his casino but the guy in charge of giving them out does not like vamps. So Roman goes to the next best thing, his daughter Fiona.

Fiona is a spoiled daughter. She does nothing but shop and hangs out with friends. She has a college education and uses it to help daddy make more money. And that is about it.

Again I liked this story and that is the problem. I wanted to love it. But I couldn't enjoy Fiona as much as I wanted to. She is very spoiled and has a huge problem with vamps all the way through the book. But yet jumps into bed with him. Her friends are in the middle. One enjoys vamps and has no problem with them, the other is total opposite and freaks out when you even mention vamps.

So it will be up to you if you want to read this story. I am happy to have read it and will read the next one. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy for my honest review.

Technically, Fiona is living off of her father's trust fund. In addition, she hosts dinner parties with property investors for him. Life in Las Vegas is never dull and her father is the head of the Gaming Commission. Roman wants a license for a casino he's bidding on, and Fiona's father is strictly ant-vampire. Roman decides to get close to Fiona to get what he wants. He didn't figure being drawn in by the spunky little human.

If you like alpha males, then you'll love Roman! He's one, sexy vampire. Fiona describes him this way, "I'm taken aback by his strong jawline, which is covered by the perfect amount of stubble... it's his already sexed, roughed up looking hair that garners my attention or is it his mesmerizing blue eyes?" Fiona wants nothing to do with him, but her thoughts are constantly on Roman. He continues to make gentlemanly advances and they form a tentative relationship. Bring in the Three Sisters (they created the vampires), some suspenseful happenings, and a hilarious last chapter and you have the recipe for a great story!

I really enjoyed the story line, the humor, and the heat in Roman. Heidi McLaughlin and Amy Briggs wrote a winner here! 4.5 Superior Stars!

A second book is planned. Can't wait for Nicolai!

Roman was a good read. Roman lives in Las Vegas and vampires live among humans. He needs a gaming license but the commissioner hates vampires. Roman needs a human to help him get the license. The commissioner happens to have a pretty a daughter, Fiona. Fiona seems to be a little superficial. She shops and throws parties but she's more then just that. There is a connection between the her and Roman. Fiona doesn't want to like him because he's a vampire. Roman is drawn to her too. He switched from just wanting a gaming license to wanting Fiona too. There were parts where both Roman and Fiona frustrated me but overall they are good characters. The ending was a bit wild and set us up for the next one.

I’ve never read these two authors before and I would have to say this book was good, not exceptional but good. Roman is set on a mission to woo Fiona to get a gaming license for the casino he purchased. Fiona is the daughter of the gaming commissioner of Las Vegas and he hates vampires. I didn’t like Fiona as a character, she just got under my skin and she wasn’t very likable. I just didn’t see Fiona as anything but a means to an end for Roman despite how he “fell” for her. The connection, hell the whole book just needed something more and edgier. But that’s just my opinion.

Heidi McLaughlin has never disappointed. Her teaming up with Amy Briggs was a great idea.
They have written an amazing story about Roman. Who is a hot as hell Vampire. he lives in Nevada, a state that allows Vampires to co exist with humans. Now don't get me wrong. The human population doesn't all approve of the vampires. In one man opinion they are an abomination. That was how Fiona Weston was taught to believe, that is until she meets Roman. True she is very weary. BUT Roman is bound and determined to win Fiona's trust. he want's something and he assumes Fiona can help him get......BUT to both their surprises their relationship starts to grow to more......This is one amazing book..Cant wait for everyone to read it

I Do Declare, Roman is THE Romancer! . . .

One may want to roll their eyes at yet another book being written about vampires and ugh humans, BUT give this novel and series a chance. These authors have truly imagined a new world with strange rules and mysterious circumstances that will definitely compel you to want more.

Roman has lived for over 500 years finding his life as a vampire to be plentiful not lacking for anything. So when he decides to buy and recapitalize a casino in Las Vegas, Roman finds himself having to work and do some research on the Weston’s, particularly the very beautiful and alluring daughter. Fiona Weston has been brought up to distrust vampires but when Roman enters her life all her preconceptions are destroyed one by one. Can Fiona let go and let love happen with Roman even with him being a vampire?

Overall, good read that had an “ending” but definitely not a conclusion as there is definitely more to their story. Now I did love most this book up until the last part of the novel, when all of a sudden my fav character Roman turned stupid typical male and literally messed everything up for everyone. The part initiated by his actions is essential to setting up for the next novels, buuut now Roman’s perfection is tainted for me. Though I’ll always love him for the flower scene, that was freakin hilarious. Fiona as a character grows the most allowing herself to change despite societal prejudices. I’m also really hoping for a book on her friend Lana who’s really open to vampires. Oh and my favorite surprise of this book *slight spoiler* the authors chose to use the Greek origins for vampire's creations and then drafted their own version from there. So if you love books with vampires falling for humans that grew up believing the dead were not to be trusted, but end up falling for them anyways and then everything goes to hell, you’ll like this series.

"I care very deeply about you, Fiona. More so than anyone I've met in five hundred years."

In this new world where vampires and humans live together Roman is trying to prove that he is more than just a vampire and is not evil like some humans still think of his kind. Having been alive for more than 500 years he wants for nothing so when he sets his sights on owning a piece of the Las Vegas strip he is determine to make sure nothing and no one gets in his way. Fiona Weston has lived a very charmed life with her hefty allowance from her father who hates vampires and is the final say of who owns a piece of Vegas.

Roman in an effort to obtain a gaming license decides to seek out Fiona to use to as a tool to convince her father to give him the license. What he wasn’t expecting was to fall for her. Fiona has always been told by her father that vampires are evil and to stay away from them. So, when she meets Roman although she is intrigued she is adamant that she can’t help him.

The start of any new paranormal series can be hard especially if the rules aren’t the norm. The nice thing about this story are new twist and versions of the vampire world that I wasn’t expecting. I found Roman and Fiona’s relationship to be a bit juvenile. Roman never having a human consort had unrealistic expectations of Fiona considering her lack of knowledge about vampires. Fiona on the other hand was very quick to think the worst of Roman without knowing the whole story and on the other side was way to quick to accept an apology or move on from a really big problem like it’s ok. All in all I think the world that Heidi and Amy are setting up has a lot of promise but Fiona and Roman were not characters I could fall in love with.

3.5 🌟

As it’s been a while since I’ve read a paranormal, I jumped at the chance as I had heard of one of the authors before and have been meaning to read her work. So, this book posed the perfect opportunity as this is the first book in the Clutch series. So, I dived in.

Firstly, the synergy between the authors was just not as cohesive as it could have been. This book has a great premise and interesting characters. However the lack of cohesiveness in this story totally left me more confused and ticked than intrigued. At the start of the story, Roman’s character had the characteristics I typically expect from a sexy vampire, good looks and a whole lot of a sexy charm.
Unfortunately, by the end for me, Roman confused me and was somewhat, weak. Both authors seem to have a different idea on how Roman would be portrayed. In regards to Fiona, she grew on me but I still did not love her for Roman. I felt her indecisiveness was in direct contrast at certain points when she acquiesces too soon in certain instances. The thing I most liked was what Roman wanted to do with the casino he wanted to buy. This was definitely different and when he takes Fiona to see why he wants the casino property, I felt this was a missed opportunity the authors could have expanded on and would have made the story more engaging. Finally, the ending was just a big no for me. What was up with the ending?!

Even though this was not what I expected and didn’t end the way I could have imagined, there is good material in this book that the authors can make an even more compelling and stronger case in the next book in the series, Nikolai. Most importantly I would read these authors again.

Roman is a vampire and a business man.  He has a specific goal in mind and money is really no object.  The only thing standing in his way is a gaming commissioner that hates vampires.  Roman devises a plan to get to know the commissioner’s daughter Fiona Weston and use her to get his gaming license.  What Roman wasn’t expecting was to fall in love with Fiona, something he hasn’t done in the five hundred years since he was made.  Now that he has a new agenda, he must face down a vampire hating father, three vengeful makers, an over-zealous girlfriend that can jump to conclusions in 2.5 seconds. On top of all that Roman must deal with a newly turned vampire son that he never wanted.  Roman has his work cut out for him when all he started out wanting to do was open a new casino.  Only time and a lot of patience will tell if Roman will survive to see the opening of his dream project come to life.

Roman by Heidi McLaughlin is not your typical vampire story. Where vampire walk in the shadows and their existence is unknown is not the case in Roman.  Of course, the vampire Roman is gorgeous and suave, but this vampire has a little bit of a temper that tends to get him in trouble.  Fiona is a rich girl that is stubborn and doesn’t let anyone take advantage of her.  She is a strong character that gets things done even if it means ruffling a few feathers.  The whole story flows and is easy reading with the drama that you would expect to find in a vampire/human story.  The story leaves off by introducing a new character at the end with a follow up book being released in August called Nicolai.

I am a new fan of the paranormal genre, and I was so excited to learn that Heidi McLaughlin and Amy Briggs had co-authored a new vampire series. “Roman”, the first book in The Clutch series, had me hooked from the very first page and I fell in love with this sexy and romantic vampire.

Roman is a businessman who is interested in buying an underperforming casino and and he also needs a gaming license, but the gaming commissioner doesn’t do business with vampires. He needs to enlist the help of a human and he finds the perfect person to help him: the daughter of the commissioner. So, Roman sets his sights on the beautiful Fiona who captivated him the moment he first saw her. The more time he spends with Fiona the more he realizes that he needs her in his life, so he decides to take his time getting to know her, because he doesn’t want Fiona to ever be afraid of him.

Fiona spends her days shopping, going to the spa and having lunch with her girlfriends. She also works for her father, planning and hosting parties for potential casino investors. She doesn’t have a problem with vampires, but her father always told her that they were dangerous. She finds Roman very attractive with his intense blue eyes, sexy chin scruff and perfect body. She is uncertain if she will be able to help Roman with his license, but she is looking forward to getting to know him better because when she is with him, he doesn’t seem like a vampire at all.

Will Roman be able to show Fiona how he really feels about her and will she accept his lifestyle or be too afraid to take a chance on love?

Roman is a romantic and caring vampire who finds himself infatuated with Fiona and as they get to know each other their journey is passionate, full of understanding and one you will never forget. I absolutely loved this book and I am looking forward to the next book in the series, “Nicolai.”

I enjoyed this writing duo. Their writing flowed well and the plot was well written. Their writing styles meshed well. Their characters were well written and I liked watching them grow both together and as individuals as the book went on.

I must be honest (like I always am) though, Fiona’s character started out a little rough for me. It wasn’t the writing or anything like that. I had a hard time connecting with Fiona. She was superficial and what I thought was lazy. BUT, this is big BUT, she really grew on me. When her true personality came out I really started to like her. I understood she thought of herself as playing a part. She was just doing what she thought was everyone’s expectations of her. She is still a young woman who acted like one at times but she also showed a maturity beyond her years at times too. Her connection with Roman was great. I like how the authors put a little twist on bonding and how it is done and everything.

I really liked Roman. His may be immortal and physically perfect but he still has a human side that comes out. He still has flaws. He makes mistakes and has to live with the consequences just like everyone else. Those things are what really endured me to him. He wasn’t completely perfect. He may not remember his human life but he kept certain attributes of it. I love his drive to help the humans even though some still treat vampires badly.

I am really interested in Nicolai’s book. I need to see how everything plays out in it.

Holy (or unholy?) hotness! Roman is .... there hasn't been a fictional vampire this good and sexy since vampire Bill. I loved Roman! I want more Roman! I want to be Fiona!
Roman has a depth and complexity to him that just comes off the pages.
The background of these vampires is interesting. Not like what you're exactly used to. There are different rules for these vampires. I thought the authors did a great job of building this world and their backstory. I suspect there is more to come on this too in the next book.
I loved the twists and tensions built between these two worlds; humans and vampires.
I had my ups and downs with Fiona. She's dealing with a lot in human life and trying to balance a relationship in the vampire world, but sometimes she'd be a little too stubborn and not as understanding of what Roman needs or seems to forget that he's a vampire; that comes with her newness to this world though.
The ending makes me excited for the send book. I would NOT say this is a cliff hanger at all, there is just more of the story yet to come!
The writing is interesting, not at all static or stilted. I've not read Heidi's books before but I am familiar with Amy and I would say it was hard for me to tell who was writing what; both authors do a fabulous job of story telling and drawing you in to their world.

This book intrigued me before I read a word! I have loved everything I have read by Heidi McLaughlin and now she is dipping into paranormal. Yes, please! Add in its a vampire, my favorite supernatural being. Again Yes! But we also have Amy Briggs cowriting, she is a fairly new to me author who has definitely been on radar and my TBR list. So it was an astounding YES!!!
It was a basic storyline Vampire boy and Human girl fall in love. But the circumstances and the fantastic characters made it a unique story.
Roman Oh I loved him!! It's hard not to fall for a hot vampire who romances the girl instead of "compelling" her.
Fiona God love her she fell for him and was clueless what she was getting into. His life is not we she expected or feared.
I loved watching him court her and watching them fall, then all hell broke loose literally. Just when I thought things would be ok. That damn Roman showed although he is a vampire he is still a stubborn pig headed man. His actions changed EVERYTHING!!
This extremely complicated unexpected twist had me scared for their love and for their lives. Not a cliffhanger but definitely left me wanting more of this story. I need the next one ASAP I have to see how this is going to play out!

Roman by Heidi McLaughlin & Amy Briggs

### 4 Hasthags ###

This is a really good vampire read, with some completely unexpected twists and turns. A different take from the norm where vampires are integrated into society.

I was completely transported into Fiona and Romans world, I love Vegas and making this the setting for this book is amazing.

A well written novel, Fiona and Romans bond was captivating, however, personally I would have liked more depth to their erotic scenes adding to their chemistry, along with more overall blood and gore.

I'm really looking forward to the next book in this new series.

3.5 Stars!

Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book, but the fact that Heidi McLaughlin wrote it was enough for me to want to read it. I was pleasantly surprised. But, I am picky about my PNRs and this one had less PNR than I would like, but the romance aspect was pretty spot on, so I'm good.

Roman is a vampire who has little use for humans, until he needs one to get approval from the gaming commission so that he can purchase and open a casino. He is alpha, has a temper and is sexy! Fiona is the human Roman needs to help him. Her father is the head of the gaming commission. Roman's opinion of Fiona is rather low in the beginning, but she certainly grows on him. I liked Roman. Fiona, not so much.

The story flows nicely and is entertaining. It isn't what you normally would think of as a vampire story. There really isn't much danger. The book leans much more toward the romance side.

A good read that kept me entertained, but was a little lacking.

Every time a new Heidi McLaughlin book is announced, I´m giddy to get my hands on it. Her Beaumont Series is one of my all time favorites and I read and reread them often.

Fiona Weston lives in Las Vegas. Her father is a successful man with big influence. She lives the high life and everything could be peachy. But there´s a certain vampire and she can´t get her out of her head. She should stay far away from him because vampires are off limits and much too evil and dangerous.
Roman is a centuries old vampire. He´s seen much too much and he loathes humans. He never needed them ´til now. He follows Fiona and shows her he isn´t much different than herself. He´s drawn to her, wants to use her for his business and later on wants to own her. Both develop a deep connection and feelings for each other.
I started reading and was immediatedly sucked into this wonderful PNR world of Heidi McLaughlin and Amy Briggs. The characters are great and I connected easily with them. I love the story, the writing is excellent and Roman was a hell of a ride.
Roman is a standalone and there isn´t really a cliffhanger, but I can´t wait to the next book, Nicolai. I hope to meet Roman and Fiona again soon.

I enjoyed Roman. I didn’t like Fiona at first but ended up really liking her. Especially at the end when she schooled Nicolai. I thought Fiona was a snooty wealthy chic who only cared about spending her daddy’s money but she ended up showing her true personality. I saw what Roman saw in her.
I liked Roman at the beginning but towards the end I wanted to behead him. I think he got what he deserved and it was quite funny the situation he ended up in. I liked how he wen after Fiona and everything he did to prove he liked her.
The three sisters need a vampire white padded room. They are completely psychotic.
The best part to me was the last few chapters. I thought they were hilarious and it was all Roman’s fault. I completely enjoyed Nicolai. I can’t wait for his story.
Great book. I highly recommend it.

I have waited two days from when I finished the book until now to write the review. I was waiting to see if this book hangover would leave. I seriously can NOT get these characters out of my head. I wish that I could go back and re-read ROMAN like I was reading it for the very first time. The collaboration of this book by these two very talented authors is incredible.
ROMAN kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. Then the twist and turns.... WOWZERS!!! I can not wait for more books with these same characters in them. Seriously ladies. I NEED MORE. I have a HUGE book hangover going on and I'm pretty darn sure it is not leaving anytime soon.
I freaking LOVED ROMAN!!!
Hands down FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC!!!!

They did it. Heidi McLaughlin and Amy Briggs made me love this vampire named Roman! Honestly, paranormal is not usually my thing, and the last vamps I liked were Angel and Spike on tv. But there was definitely something different about this story that sucked (yeah yeah I said it) me in. I guess because I’m such a fan of both writers you could say they “compelled me” to like this story. But it was more than that, I think between the contemporary setting of Vegas, the reluctant fascination and then pull Roman and Fiona had for each other and the white hot chemistry I really had no choice but to fall for this book! Loved the details, the history, the emotion, the drama and even the humor. All boxes were checked for me and I’m glad we aren’t done with The Clutch.

I'll admit it has been quite a while since I have sank my teeth into a good paranormal read. It was so nice to get back to a genre that I love. Roman was everything I was hoping it would be.
McLaughlin and Briggs had me in all the feels. Roman had me swooning hard one minute, and completely frustrated the next, only to melt right into a puddle again.
Fiona is the kind of character you can't help but love. She is strong, independent, and not willing to let what others think influence her opinions. I loved her from the start.
The side characters in this one are fabulous and I can't wait to get their stories as well. I have a feeling Nicolai's story is going to be amazing and I need it now! August cannot come soon enough.

I’m going to start off by saying how much I love Heidi Mclaughlin’s books and have yet to read any of Amy Briggs books, although I have a couple waiting for me on my kindle. I’m really not that big of fan of paranormal books. And although I didn’t absolutely love Roman, but I did like it.
Roman is one hot, sexy and alpha male vampire. And he has no use for humans and their rules until he meets Fiona.
Fiona to me was a little shallow to me, I honestly couldn’t connect with her. There is defiantly a connection between her and Roman and it’s hot as hell.
This story had some drama and humor to keep the pages turning. I’m still not the biggest paranormal fan, but definitely a fan of Roman’s. I look forward to the next book from these two.

Omfg I love paranormal reads especially vampires and hearing that Heidi & Amy was co-writing a vamp book I was intrigued and hooked. I love, love Roman, everything about him will make him become your next vamp book boyfriend. This book once I started reading I didn’t want too put it down. Roman & Fiona are sweet and sexy and truly are meant to be but one mistake turns their world upside down. If you are a vampire fan then this book you must read. I want the next book ASAP. This is a standalone and I’m dying to read Nicolai’s story. Another 5 Star read that you won’t regret reading.

I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

What a fabulous collaboration! Amy and Heidi rocked the paranormal romance world venturing into the unknown with their first go ahead. Roman was so much than I expected. They didn’t write your usual vampire romance, no they stepped it up. They did research and put their own spin on the vampire world creating this phenomenal vampire story. This is not your sparkle in the sunlight kind of vampire story; there is suspense, humor and of course the romance. This is one book you’re not gonna want to put down.

Welcome to The Clutch series. I can’t wait to see what they come up next with Nikolai’s story. It can only get better from here.

What a great collaboration between two amazing authors! Take Heidi McLaughlin, add in Amy Briggs, vampires in Vegas, and you have this awesome result! Roman....Your new book vampire boyfriend!
They will make you believe they actually walk among us!
Roman, around for oh 500 years, meets Fiona, the daughter of the man he needs to sign off on his casino license, but he doesn't like vampires, and won't do it, so Roman goes after the mans daughter. What happens next is just amazing!
Read this great story by two authors who nailed this paranormal story! 5 stars for this, and don't miss this one!

This is not my normal genre to read but I gave it a go since I'll read anything Heidi McLaughlin writes. This collaboration with Amy Briggs was seamless, I can't tell who wrote what, the flow was great. And being that I'm not too familiar with vampire novels, I found it well explained how their lifestyle works and the rules they follow. Roman surprised me, there was a lot to him. Besides being sexy, he's also wanting to do good and make a difference and it made me love him even more. If you're like me and new to this genre, it's definitely a great book to start off with and sink your teeth into. 😉
