* * *

Maggie thought she was married to an earl . . . but it seems that her late and unlamented husband lied to her from the day they met. Now—penniless and stranded in London—she has thrown herself  on the mercy of the real Lord Warwick. What's a counterfeit countess to do?

Edward, the Earl of Warwick, desires only to get rid of the beautiful woman who arrived at his house with no less than fourteen trunks, a younger sister, a maid, and a very large cat. Her preposterous explanation is of no importance—but her late husband held the clue to the identity of England's greatest traitor, a clue the Foreign Service must get at any cost. Edward will have to guard her night and day—but he cannot guard his heart.

Cheryl Bolen amazing books have all had clever storylines. The characters are witty, stimulating and often, make you fall in love with them! It is not an easy achievement to totally transport the reader to timeline and world of yesteryear, but Ms.Bolen melds our minds to invision and feel the stories. I can see the ballrooms, the countryside, as well as each of the people she creates with my minds eye! I can feel the drama as it unfolds and always thrilled at the twists and plots. I would purchase (and I am), all of Ms. Bolens book treasures.

So funny and so romantic and sensual. I was laughing through the entire book, and the building tension kept me breathless with anticipation. I liked that this heroine is different from others in the historical romance genre.. Brazen really does define her. Their interactions (sensual and otherwise) were so enjoyable. At first I disliked the whole Fiona/Edward thing because he really did love her at one point, but was glad when he finally came to his senses and that part of his life was over. I was only too glad when we had finally seen the last of Fiona in this book, but I realize now that I had already read her story (book 2) quite a while ago and enjoyed it immensely. If I hadn't already, I probably wouldn't bother; but putting aside this whole debacle, it really is a great book as well.

Intriguing story. Lots of twists along with a real love shining through. I've read a few by Ms Bolen and intend to read the whole list before I'm through. Highly recommend this author to lovers of regency romance /mystery.
