Ole Miss Student Brings Technology to the Forefront with Startup Business

Prahar Patel, a native of Madison, Mississippi, has always had a passion for technology. As a current junior majoring in biology and information systems, Patel is in the process of bringing Oxford residents to the forefront of technology with his business EZ Home Automation.

With the help of a $1,000 grant from the Rebel Venture Capital Fund—an alumni established nonprofit entity created to financially support student start-up business with seed money grants—Patel was able to turn his technological idea into a reality in April 2017.

United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) is an inclusive community advancing entrepreneurship education through bold teaching, scholarship, and practice. Held each January in locations around the country, the annual USASBE Conference convenes over 650 diverse attendees from 308 universities and 30 countries that engage in an immersive four-day experience. 

Our Co-Director of CIE, Founders Chair of Entrepreneurship and Associate Professor of Management, Dr. Rich Gentry served as the Senior Vice President - Conference Chair at the USASBE 2019 at St. Pete Beach, Florida. The theme of this year's conference was Navigating Opportunity. More than 500 participants from around the globe attended the conference.

The Rebel Venture Capital Fund is an alumni established non-profit entity created to financially support student start-up businesses with seed money grants. 

April 12: Farrington Distinguished Entrepreneur of the Year Award

The School of Business Administration will recognize "Entrepreneur of the Year Award" of 2019.

Scholarships

Francis Haik Jordan Award for Entrepreneurship Fund 
Students will apply for the award by submitting a resume and answering a set of questions regarding their entrepreneurial activities. The award, in the amount of $2,000, and will be presented at the Gillespie Business Plan awards reception in the spring of the year.

Sunny Sue Haik Award for Entrepreneurship Fund
Students will apply for the award by submitting a resume and answering a set of questions regarding their entrepreneurial activities. The award, in the amount of $2,000, and will be presented at the Gillespie Business Plan awards reception in the spring of the year.

Dr. Michael and Kim Perry Memorial Scholarship  
The purpose of this endowment is to honor in perpetuity Kim and Michael Perry and to provide deserving students in the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship program at the University of Mississippi.

All scholarships are now open for applications.
