Bennett Mafia #1

Bennett Mafia

Rate this book
There were always whispers about my roommate at Hillcrest Academy. The wealthiest of the wealthy sent their kids to our boarding school, and Brooke Bennett had been at the top, though I never quite knew why. She was fun and outgoing, but she kept quiet about her family. The only things she showed me were photographs of her brothers. I became fascinated with her second-oldest brother. Kai Bennett. He was the most of them all. Smoldering. Hypnotic. Alluring. Kai had eyes that pulled me in and a face that haunted my dreams. Then I met him. He came to our school with their father, and that’s when I learned what kind of family Brooke came from. They were mafia, and Brooke’s oldest brother was dead. Her father said accident, but Brooke said murder. Three months later, her father died, and Kai became the head of the Bennett Family. Brooke left Hillcrest for good, and that was the last time I saw her. Fourteen years later, I’m staring at her face on the television. Brooke is missing. Two days later, Kai Bennett kidnaps me. ** This is a 120k complete standalone. ** There is a bonus chapter from another book at the end.

4.25 gripping, thrilling and hot romantic stars.
Tijan is one of the greatest indie writers who can perfectly create magnificent mafia/mob boss stories. I think the execution part on Council meeting is already imprinted on my mind and I’ll never easily remove it!
Well as like Leonard Cohen’s lyrics, “You want it darker, we kill the flame!”. And our hero Kai is absolutely big flame killer.
Kai is a great Alpha hero, charismatic, nonchalant, risk taker, passionate. I also loved Riley, she may be broken but she knows how to raise from her ashes and stand up after life really gives her a big sucker punch on her face.
I only cut the points from unnecessary last part drama ( Maybe it was necessary but I don’t like the characters say stupid things to torture themselves)
Instead of that part, it hooked me from the first page, it was really exciting page-turner and so far one of the best books of Tijan.

Anything by this author I tend to jump on it, she could rewrite the phone book and I’d beg for a copy!!

PAST: At the centre of the story is Brooke Bennett the mafia Princess, she was Riley’s roommate at boarding school when they were in their teens. She tended to be very closed mouth about her family but the photos on the wall told another story entirely. It was one such photo that Riley was drawn to, and that was of Kai, the second eldest brother. He just had more of a presence, he seemed more intimidating than his siblings, everything about him just screamed more. And the fact that they were mafia and ruthless should've screamed keep away, but it seemed to have the opposite effect.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

PRESENT: Today’s news broadcasts a missing person, and that missing person is Riley’s old roommate Brooke. They were no longer roommates, you could even say they were no longer best friends. All that ended thirteen years ago. Riley is no longer the Riley we know, she’s a completely different person. Today Riley goes by the name Raven Hastings, ives with two other roommates, and works at a nursing home where she worked as a nursing aide. But there is so much more to her story.

Kai wants to get to the bottom of his sisters disappearance and he thinks Raven knows more than she's letting on and the only way in his eyes to do that is to kidnap her!!

Our heroine Riley is a strong compassionate fierce character, she will protect those she loves fiercely.

Our hero Kai is a dark, broody, ruthless alpha male and a force to be reckoned with, but he’s also honest to a fault.

I am everything that's bad in this world. You are everything that's good, and I am turning you into me. I hate myself when I look at you. You reflect everything wrong in me, every time I'm inside of you.

Under the same roof these two cannot hide their attraction for each other, it sizzles off the pages, no matter how hard they try to fight it.

Mafia reads are my kryptonite, one of my go to genres of all time, they offer enough darkness, angst, and the romance I need all in a nice package. Finding out Tijan was bringing us another mafia read I was signing up without even reading the blurb, one look at the author sealed the deal.
The only reason why I’m giving this 4 stars and not 5 is the beginning came across stilted, with vast gaps in the timeline, which made it hard for me to connect to the storyline, I didn’t understand their childhood friendship because it was glossed over, but the further i got into the storyline it just flowed ceaselessly, and the pace picked up and that’s when it came into its own for me. I couldn’t put it down. Chapters just flew by. I inhaled it.

“There was this fight, this dance between us. Good versus evil—but I wasn’t perfect, and Kai wasn’t evil. He just did evil things.”

Oh my God!!!
I wasn’t expecting to like this book so much, but surprisingly I did.
I couldn’t put it down, I was hooked from the first page to the last. I loved the characters, I just loved everything about it! It was definitely a pleasant and great surprise.

The setting: Canada, Minneapolis, Milwaukee

The Hero(s): Kai Bennett - Leader of the Bennett Mafia Family. He is looking for his sister who disappeared recently. He kidnaps his sister’s best friend from Boarding school to attempt to find her.

The heroine: Riley Bello - was roommates with Brooke Bennet in boarding school when they were younger. She now works for a group that helps people escape dangerous situations. She was trained for it an lives under an assumed name. She was once helped by the same group.

The Love Story: Kai is harsh and broody. He has a lot on his shoulders and had for a very long time. While being held captive by Kai, Riley gets closer to him and they end up finding themselves attracted to each other.

Riley has a terrible opinion of Kai since Brooke told her when they were young that Kai had murdered their oldest brother. He then murdered his father and came to bring Brooke home from school. However, as time goes on, she finds herself getting to know the man and what he stands for.

I liked this story, it was a bit different than most of the Tijan books I have read. I know I had read something on the Bennett Mafia in one of the other Tijan books I had read. I can’t even remember which one, but I put this on my TBR at the time. It was definitely worth reading. Far from the standard Mafia Captive Romance.

With regard to the narration, the book was told in Riley’s POV, not dual POV. I generally like Dual POV in romance, but I have to say the narration in this was terrific beside it being a woman. She has a great feminine voice but also does male voices so good. I really enjoyed listening to this on via audiobook!

I fell in love with Tijan's writing, when I first read (I've done many re-reads) the "Fallen Crest High"  series. I also have a major weakness for "made" men, so I figured this book would be perfect for me.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor right up my alley gif

This story starts out with Riley becoming best friends with Brooke Bennett, at boarding school. Riley doesn't know very much about her new friend, but she does know that Brooke has a lot of brothers and her family seems to be a very "big deal". She is especially interested in the picture Brooke has of Kai, the second oldest brother...

Bit by bit, we get fed tiny bits of information and things started to become clear to me (and to Riley) as to who the "Bennett" family really is. There were still lot's of questions left open though...

When people within the Bennett family start dying, Riley is pulled out of school by her brother Kai... It's the end of a lovely friendship...

Now years later, mafia princess Brooke has gone missing and Kai and his brothers have kidnapped Riley, because they are sure she has the answers to some very important questions.

Riley is not some whiny desperate heroine...she knows how to take care of herself, but even she has to admit defeat. What's worse though, is dealing with the attraction she feels towards Kai. She has always had a bit of a thing for him and turns out that she is not the only one feeling the sparks between them...

neck+kiss.jpg (500×433)

I really enjoyed this one. Riley was a strong heroine and Kai was deliciously dark and broody. The storyline was also very interesting. That said, I did get a bit confused at the beginning about what was going on, the time jumps had me scratching my head a bit as to what was happening.  Thankfully it didn't take me too long to figure things out, but still....the confusion was real.

If you're a mafia fan like me and love your heroines strong and feisty and your heroes a bit dark, you should definitely check this one out.

This book was...something. Ridiculous is probably the best word. I love Mafia books, okay? Like, love them. But this book lacked a lot. I couldn't sympathize with Riley at all, she made it very hard to care about her because her thought process was infuriating. She's a so-called operative that legitimately lets everything slide by her - completely unaware of so many things she should be aware of as a "trained agent." That plot point was a waste if she's going to suck at it. I wouldn't be lusting after a mafia man that kidnapped me, I'd be pissing my pants. Riley just...annoyed the shit out of me. The Bennett brothers were okay, Brooke was as silly as a mafia princess is expected to be but that didn't make me like her anymore. I was mostly reading to finish it, to see if it had any redeeming qualities. Sadly, it didn't. It was predictable, the plot was all over the place, and I found it very hard to care about any of them.

*** 3.5 Stars!!!***

This book puzzled me at times. I loved it at times, and then at other times I felt it dragged a bit. There were a ton of secrets that slowly get revealed all through out the book. I was on board with that! The thing that was annoying was how long it took for the reveals to come to light. Explanations seemed to go on and on... I often thought: just get on with it already!!!

As for Kai... he’s a badass mafia guy hands down! I loved his presence; I just didn’t feel his dedication to his woman as much as I’d like to have.
All in all though, it was a good read just not my absolute favourite of Tijans!!!

“My boarding school roommate was a mafia princess”
....
and then she meets the mafia prince.

This book is an emotional rollercoaster from the beginning until the very end. And it does not lack adventure and passion.

Riley becomes best friends with Brooke Bennett at boarding school. Riley has no siblings. Brooke has many brothers and apparently her family is very important.

Riley will learn everything about Brooke's brother from the pictures that she has and from the stories that she tells. This is how she gets a first glimpse of Kai.
When she meets Kai for a first time a couple of years later, Kai has already killed his big brother and Brooke is taken away from school.

Years later, Riley is an agent who helps hiding people in danger, Brooke is missing and Kai is the Mafia boss. Riley is kidnapped by the Bennetts and the Bennett brothers demand from her to tell them where is Brooke.

Does Riley know where is Brooke?
Is Brooke really in danger?
Why Kai still influence Riley's reactions? She hasn't met him since she was a teenager.
What is Riley's secret?
What happened to Riley's family?
Does Kai have a secret agenda?
Does Brooke have a secret agenda?

So many questions! And the answers are not easy. The story tangles continuously until it untangles towards the end – although the twists keep coming.

I really enjoyed the book and I hope it becomes a series.

I was not expecting this to be such a suspenseful story but it had me so intrigued by the mystery of what was going on with Kai's family. I loved that from page one it was able to suck me in and I was just enthralled by everything happening. The Bennett family definitely had a lot secrets that were revealed slowly as the story progressed. It had me dying to more with each turn of the page! Honestly, this has been one of the most captivating books I've read this year.

The story centers around Riley and the Bennett family, who is known to be a ruthless mafia family. They come to her for help, aka leave her no other option but to help, for their sister who was once Riley's roommate at boarding school. It opens her world up to so many secrets about, not just the Bennett's, but her family also. And it leads her back to Kai Bennett, head of the family, and the one guy who scared her when she was younger. But now that she's older she is feeling far more than just scared.

These two had the kind of explosive chemistry that I just love in my stories. The kind where both characters know that they shouldn't want each other but they can't help the connection that pulls them together. Kai had this overpowering presence about him whenever he was in a scene that makes you sit up and take notice. It made up for him not having a POV, at least for me since I usually am pretty meh about one-POV stories. His character was amazing for that and the whole brooding type of vibe he was giving off, along with his intense way of revealing information was brilliant.

As for Riley, girl needed an applause. I love how she handled everything. She didn't go down without a fight, but she also knew when to fold and give in to that urge to jump Kai. And she was a really good fit for his intensity with her attitude and the fight she had. Even as I say that she knew when to give it up, I don't mean that she ever stopped fighting and I really admire that about any character. She was protective of those she cared about and for them she would do anything, and who doesn't want a friend like that?

The point of all of this fangirl style rambling is that I really really liked this story and I want everyone I know to read it. It gets a huge recommend from me and if you're a fan of mafia books, or just a fan of really amazing characters, this is the book you need to read next.

"You are my goodness. My redemption. My lifeline. Jesus.... you woke something good in me that I never knew was there, and I realized every time I held you that I was destroying you. Little by little. The more goodness you gave to me, the more darkness I gave back. I was changing you. I have changed you"

A good mafia story, but was boring a bit. There were many unnecessary moments, which made the story longer. But, aside from those moments, I loved Kai's character, and his love towards Riley.

Title: Bennett Mafia
Author: Tijan
Publication Date: March 4, 2019

bf1

Considering that I've read each and every book written by Tijan, one would think that I'd have an idea of how things would play out. I mean, I feel like I should know what to expect by now to the point of it being 'predictable' yet comforting; which is weird because DUH...there is nothing soft and cute about Tijan's books.
But lo and behold, I've been proven wrong once again.
It always shocks me that she somehow continues to blow my mind with how unpredictable the stories in her books are.

I love the fact that Tijan always writes amazing female protagonists. They are always strong and fierce. I also love that her male protagonists are such strong alpha men but they are never stifling. They support their women...they let them shine.

Kai is dark, broody and honestly? He just oozes male masculinity with a smoothness that is indescribable. whereas Riley is tough AF! She is brilliant, quiet and deadly.
Together, Kai and Riley are Perfection!

Tijan writes vengeance so beautifully. She balances right and wrong with faultless brilliance. To be honest, it's scary yet so thrilling exciting.
But no matter what, there is always strength and a sense of confidence when it comes to Tijan's books.

It's very hard to be good in a world when authors writes such temptingly sinful books and there was without a doubt an insatiable need that made me crave Kai and Riley's story.
Bennett Mafia had me hooked!
Bennett Mafia is a tantalisingly excellent read!

"We're Bennetts. There's a responsibility that comes with our family surname. All of us hate it, but if we have to step up and bear it, we will."

"I am destroying the safe world you had erected, and you're letting me do it. I am fucking terrified that you will hate me at the end of all this..."

A Tijan book and a mafia book together??? Are you kinding me??? HELL YES!!!!
God, i love this woman's writing so damn much!!! She is my secret delight!!!
And I'm really trying to resist because i really have to read and another authors, so I'm keeping her many times for my hard times!!!! But I'm loving every. single. book. of hers!!! Even though. my first one of hers "A whole new crowd" will always hold a special place in my heart!!!!
As you can realize, this book wasn't an exception!!!

So, here was a super, wild ride as always with Tijan's books!!!
We entered the mafia world and to be totally honest with you, even though she had written more from these kind of books, it was my first!!!! (The hard days as i told you before!!! Bahahaha!!!) And i damn loved it!!!!
It surely was a big book, but it had so many action inside that i didn't get bored not once!!!
The main couple was amazing and the rest of the crew was also very loveable!!!
Nope, this story wasn't about unicorns and rainbows, far from it, but it seemed real in an unrealistic way!!!!

"I am everything that's bad in this world. You are everything that's good, and I am turning you into me..."

Well, let me explain some things about the plot, but not too many, because... You know i hate spoilers, and it will be inevitable to make at some point!!!
Riley met Brooke Bennett when she was twelve years old... They were roommates for some time... Brooke was a princess mafia and she had a big family with four more brothers!!!
A year later, Brooke's brother, Kai, took his sister away from school and Riley lost contact with her... But she never forget her, or Kai for the matter!!!

"I do not want to hurt you, but I will if it means losing my sister. Remember that."

In the present day, Riley is leading a different kind of life... And Brooke is going missing...
And then, out of nowhere, two days after Brooke's disappearance, Riley is getting abducted by the Bennett family and specificaly by their leader, Kai, who is trying to find his sister and he's demanding Riley's help in that matter...
And that is the beginning of a weird and life-changing journey for both of them, but especially for Riley!!!

"Kai was the enemy , or I'd thought he was. Now I didn't know.
I didn't know what was going on with me."

"I needed to stop giving Kai more credit than he deserved. Fucking attraction had started to blind me to what he did for a living: he was in the mafia. He was a bad guy. He did bad things"

As you can understand, ther will be lust and love between those two, but it also will be bad blood... The line between hate and love is very thin and the kind of life that Kai is leading is going against Riley's goals in life...
Is really Riley holding the key in Brooke's disappearance???
Will Kai let her go or will he change her for good???
Will Riley listen to her heart or her logic will win after all???
Is Kai as ruthless and calculating as he seems to be or there is also a different side of him???
Is there a future for the two of them or their ending is inevitable from the very first moment???

"You may hate me. You may loathe me...
But you goddamn want me."

"I was weak. I was an embarrassment to the ideals I'd dedicated my life to: helping others, saving others, protecting others. I was with a man who violated all of those principles, and I should run. I could run now, but I didn't. I knew I wouldn't.
I would give in when he came to me."

Well, i won't say more about this book, but there was much background in here...
There were many good things, but also too many bad things that took place in here...
It was a very hard thing to be a part of the Bennett family...
Kai was ruthless and cruel, but for his family, he could do anything!!! For Riley too, as it seemed in here!!!
The Network was making a really great job, but i can not say more details about it!!!

"It has to be your decision. Everything has to be your decision."

Riley was a very strong woman and i liked the fight inside of her, especially in the beginning...
Yep, the feelings were clouding her mind from time to time, but she still had it in her...
Kai's presence in her life changed her in a way that she couldn't undone, but she changed him too!!!
Yep, he was the head of the family and he did anything to be in that place, so his morals weren't in high levels, but at the same time, we could see that he had heart deep down inside... Family came first for him... And then, there was Riley...
Those two had too many shits to face, together and separately, but together could do anything!!!
Their love was explosive and in a way, destructive!!!
Will they manage to find balance and be together after all???
To be totally honest with you, near to the end, my heart was breaking for them....

"He opened a channel inside of me where dark things happened, a place most people didn't want to acknowledge. Not Kai. Not me. He'd found it in me, made me look at it, and then he took me there and was making it my home.
I shouldn't have wanted it. I shouldn't have wanted him, but I could no longer deny that I was his."

"I cannot risk you. I won't. I've had my mother taken from me. My brother. I won't risk anyone else, and I won't apologize for that. I care about you. Whether it's rational or not, I won't chance losing you."

In here, there were too many bad people!!!! Okay, the Bennetts were also bad, but i got to know them and i loved them, even with their flaws and their bad actions!!!
Yep, in books, i have no moral compass!!! LOL!!!
So, i loved all the Bennetts, beyond my dear Kai!!!They were an intriguing bunch!!!!
I also liked a lot Riley's roommates, Blade and Carol!!! They were risking their heads for her and i appreciated it very much!!!
God, Tijan's stories never get old for me!!! I need them as the air i breathe!!!!

"You are my goodness. My redemption. My lifeline. Jesus, you woke something good in me that I never knew was there, and I realized every time I held you that I was destroying you. Little by little. The more goodness you gave to me, the more darkness I gave back. I was changing you..."

If I could give this book a hundred stars I would.
I absolutely loved it! It had me flipping the pages non stop.
Kai, oh wait! He is everything. I swooned so hard over him. Riley what a strong heroine, full of sass.
I was on the edge more times then not. This book had it all, suspense, drama, sexy times, made me laugh out loud.
Dare I say this may be my favorite Tijan book?

An Arc was kindle provided by Tijan. Thanks a million for the Arc. I loved it.

Fuckin hell...

March 4th seems like light years away...

Fuckin hell...

ah, so I finally wrapped up this baby...

What can I say, Tijan left a permanent mark on my soul by creating one of the msot antagonising, pulsatingly vivid male characters (Mason from Fallen Crest High series, if you haven't guessed it before) and in each and every one of her books, I subconsciously search for him in all other characters Tijan creates.

BUT i have to say that Kai Bennett of Bennett Mafia family came too close to the Mason throne. I effin loved the guy.

he was true to his role in the mafia family and he took it wordlessly with so much dark dominance he simply ruled the pages...in everything he did.

as much as the story goes, I have to say that the first part of the book (mainly introduction and the first few chapters) were a bit of a messy delivery - the 15 years gap between the short "explanation" of the events happening when the characters were 12 (the heroine) and when she meets Kai (age 16) for the first time, are somewhat immaturely based on an idea or appearance and the fact that the author kept going on and building this "emotion" aka hate between the two is simply unbased to start with.

So, when the plot jumps in the action/present 15 years later, so now they are 27 and 31, it would seem that they would out grown that particular "emotion" based on nothing but a memory and a glimpse of the past, but no, the heroine hates Kai with the fire of the thousand suns or whatever...but based on what exactly?!

I tried to surpass that by focusing of the second part of the story and that is ALL Kai's doing.
In fact, he is the highlight of dark...and he carries the story through.

It's action packed, it's dark, it's gritty and it's tense in steam and I loved it.

BUT considering the flaws of the first part I simply can't give 5 stars.

We were no longer our pasts, and last names were forbidden.  We couldn't use them, say them, or even think them.

teaser Bennett Mafia.jpg new

Riley was giving a wealthy life when she was younger but the cost was high.  When the opportunity to start fresh came to join this secret society she didn't think twice.  Riley knew she had to do whatever it took to survive her father's cruelty.

❝I was no longer Bruce Bello's daughter.❞

I really like all the mystery and suspense in this story; it had me glued to the pages just wanting for more.  I did went through so many emotions and was conflicted with Riley.  I liked her but I also was annoyed by her at times.  Like the entire fainting more times than I can count on had me rolling my eyes the entire time.  She did redeemed herself thought and I ended up liking her a lot.  I understood her internal conflict with her feelings and what she thought it was the right and wrong.

❝Kai was the cliff.  I just wanted to fall free.  Away from him.  To him. In his arms.  I wanted all of it, and my chest heaved.❞ ❝Kai might've dragged me over the line, but he had let go, and I'd stayed.❞

When Riley meets Bennett she feels a magnetic connection towards him and many years after the feeling never went away; hell I was practically sweating and nervous as heck every time he was in the room.  I fell madly in love with Bennett in this book.  He completely turned my insides into mush.  He gave me the Mason Cade and Carter Reed vibes for real.  I couldn't get enough of him.  So when he did what he did around ninety percent in the story I cried, I seriously ugly cried my eyeballs off so hard it hurts so good hahaha.

I will not gamble with the lives of those I care about, and you're one of them now.

Bennett Mafia is such a great story full of great characters, a twisted plot and loaded with suspense and action.  The chemistry between Riley and Bennett was on point and oh boy how much I love Bennett.  He was seriously badass; I would love to have more books of the Bennetts, like Tanner and Jonah stories.  Overall, I enjoyed this story a lot and highly recommend to readers who enjoy mafia stories full of action and suspense.

Не харесвам безсмислени диалози, не харесвам нелогични постъпки, не харесвам противоречиви образи, не харесвам тъпи истории. Това всичко е в тази книга! Толкова е глупава и отегчителна, пълна загуба на време.

3.5 where did I go wrong stars

So.. I'm a bit underwhelmed. I was expecting something to blow me away, but instead, I barely felt anything but the overwhelming feeling of meh. But since I am very sleepy, and it is very late, I'll keep this short and sweet:
♣ I don't like how Riley is so indecisive about everything, and literally how little effort she makes in running away. Aka the fight that Kai loves so much is one I just didn't see.

♣ The scenes could've been structured more elaborately, and mostly, I really am not a big fan of how easily the scenes and the story wandered off so many times. Imagine if it were my head taking a stroll through the rose gardens while I was reading this book. It would be terrible. And pointless and a waste of everyone's time.

♣ The ending. I really fucking hate how easily Riley just succumbs to Kai after the way he hurt her, and she looses everything because of him. I'm really not a fan of that rushed closing chapters. Whatever happened to making a man grovel?!

I honestly was expecting more than this based on everyone's reviews, but since this is all we have, we'll have to settle.
Overall verdict: meh

Kai Bennet

2.5 / 5 stars

A bit of a meh book, I was expecting more but this followed a well-worn road that was littered with unrealistic situations, and 'bad-ass' females who talked about said 'badassness' more than they demonstrated it.

DNF

I am not going to get into it all, but obviously I may be in a minority here ....i just did not like this one at all, felt so juvenile, ridiculous and all over the place

I am soo obsessed with Tijan's words it isn't even funny. This story was so sexy and addicting and the world that Tijan created in Bennett Mafia was just mindblowing! I am so consumed with Kai and Riley and their connection. They were intense, sexy and so addicting. I could not get enough!

Without giving away any spoilers, Kai Bennett was sinfully delicious. The head of the Bennett family has always known about his little sister's bestfriend, Riley Bello. But when he suddenly kidnaps her to get what he needs, Riley has no idea what this dangerous and ruthless mafia boss has coming for her!

Gahhh!! This man is amazinggggg! He gave me Carter Reed feels. His connection to Riley was so intense and honestly I was hooked from the start. This story had suspense, tension, angst and was absolutely incredible.  I loved the connection that Kai and Riley had and the countless shockers we found out along the way. I am officially addicted to another Tijan book and can't wait for more from this author! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

Edit 2nd read:
Yep. Still one of my favorites. 🥵 I LOVE THIS BOOK!

1st read:
Holy sh*t! Yes, yes, yessss!!! Tijan always get it done! This was a wild ride and I loved every second of it!

I couldn't put this book down because of how good it was. The story had me hooked from the first page, it's amazing! I was on edge the whole time, it had so much action and emotions, I actually felt a rush of excitement and adrenaline each time Riley had to fight. I loved her. She was so fierce, strong and she was a fighter, even though her life has never been a walk in the park and she had a monster for a father, she did the best she could and fought her way into the goodness in life.
This book has everything, it has action, dangerous situations, kidnappings, love, fights and so much more. With each chapter, something new was unrevealed and I just couldn't stop reading it.
I loved the family, they were cursed because of their last names but they were a family, they had each other's backs and they were always ready to move heaven and hell for each other when needed. I really like reading about family loyalty. It's beautiful.

Anyway, this was an amazing read. Tijan is one of my fav authors and she didn't disappoint in this book.
Can't wait to see if she's going to make a series out of this book or not. It sure would be interesting.

4 Stars!!

“Actions matter. To be reckless with words is to be selfish, and combine that with power, and it is dangerous. Be better.”

Riley grew up with wealth but the cost wasn't cheap. She also went to boarding school, and her roommate Brooke- turned out to be a Mafia Princess. But that was in the past- opportunity for a fresh slate presents itself and Riley jumps in headfirst in hopes to escape her old life. She was willing to do anything to protect herself from what haunts her.

Tijan did it AGAIN!! I just love how she pours everything into her characters and makes the story come to life. She did her homework for sure!!! This was hardcore and a little hard to read at times. There are some pretty dark themes that are talked about but, it is a mafia book, so its to be expected. I will say that she did not hold back AT ALL for this one!

Riley was an ok main character. She did get under my skin just a little bit because at times she could be a little dramatic. And I felt like we were supposed to think she was a bad ass but she didn't really fit that mold for me... we never really got to see her in her element only talked about it. All the Bennett siblings were great. I did not know what to think of Kai at first. He is a legit MOB BOSS. He was brutal and at times you wanted to just hate him but love him at the same time. The chemistry between Kai and Riley felt sorta forced in the beginning but as the book went on I was able to look past it.

There was SO MUCH happening in this book!! I loved that the most. There was never a dull moment and things happened quickly. I hope that Tijan decides to write more off this series but for now its sadly just a stand alone. But I have a feeling we might see more of these characters later on- that's not confirmed though, just a hunch and hope that I have ! If you are a fan of Tijan- you will definitely want to add this to your TBR ;)

Wow! Let me first start off by saying that. Tijan didn’t come to play with this one. I devoured this in one sitting because so much was happening that I didn’t want to put my kindle down.

What I liked most about this book was that Tijan wasn’t afraid to go there. There was bloodshed and secrets and I was loving every moment of it. Kai was someone that I wouldn’t want to piss off or meet in a dark alley. Okay I take that back, I might want to meet him in a dark alley wink, wink. He was ruthless and took no shit, the perfect kind of mob boss. Riley was his equal in so many ways. She wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty or go toe to toe with Kai.

These two had chemistry down! I kept screaming ”just have sex already!!” so many times. Unfortunately, once they started, it seemed like that’s all they did. I wanted a bit more romance from them and all I really got were a bunch of sex scenes. I wanted to actually feel when they actually fell in love, you know.

The best part of this book were the secrets and the betrayals. Every time I thought I had something figured out, I would get blown away by another revelation. I was so drawn into this world and it was a treat to read.

I highly recommend this if you are a fan of Tijan or mafia books in general!

I received an ARC for an honest review.

This was soooo boring and definitely not my type of read.

Firstly it was so hard to get into. Why the author added chapters like past and present in the beginning when the h was thinking about what happened in her past in the present chapter. It was very messy and confusing. Either we get her past in the past chapter or else the chapters shouldn’t be divided into past present.
Then we get all the rants about the h gushing and talking about the H, who is her friend’s brother. She is like he is hot but dangerous but hot but bad but blah blah. She keeps on talking about him.

Then the plot. It was so confusing. She had a best friend who is a mafia princess with 3 or 4 or I don’t know how many ...hot brothers. One of them is the hero about whom she keeps talking about. Then when one of her brother gets killed the mafia princess leaves school. And then we come back to the present The H is obviously a mafia king now. So now his sister is missing and so he kidnaps the h thinking that she knows where his sister is.

Very boring. Dull.

My first read by this author and I really enjoyed it, I definitely recommend this book!!!!!Riley's father was abusive so before he turn to her Rileys mother sent her away to a Hillcrest Academy boarding school. That is where she met Brooke Bennett. Brooke was a great roommate and was full of life and spoke little about her family, however she had a wall of pictures of what her brothers looked like and everyone flocked to her wall because they were HOT. One afternoon after being pulled from class I found out just who Brookes family was they were Bennett mafia , Brooke had learned from her father that her oldest brother died in a accident airplane crash, but Brooke knew differently he was murdered by her father. That is when I met Kai Bennett he came to the school with his father, he had these perfect dark eyes I was trying not to stare but got pulled right into Kai Bennett appeal. I never forgot him.

Now 14 years later Brooke is missing and who is the Bennett mafia family first stop, yes ME, Kai Bennett kipnapped me from my life. Now I have to fight for it back while not being suck into him like a moth to a flame.

3 I’m being nice stars!
Riley ruined this book for me! I skimmed a lot of her thoughts because if I didn’t I’d probably pulled my hair out. Lol I thought she was going to be sort of a bad ass because of her job and her training that was mentioned over and over. I was wrong. She was a fainting, puking, thoughts say one thing but body does another thing dumb ass.

I loved the Bennet boys though. I only hope Tijan makes better females or males for them in the future.
