Armenia’s UN envoy elected ECOSOC Vice-President

Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Mher Margaryan has been elected as Vice-President of the  UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) from Eastern European States.

On July 25 ECOSOC elected the President and three Vice-Presidents for its 2020 Session.

ECOSOC, as one of the main organs of the United Nations, is responsible for coordinating the economic, social, environmental and related work of the specialized agencies, funds and programmes, the functional commissions and the regional commissions of the United Nations.

It also serves as the central forum for follow-up on actions aimed at the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

ECOSOC has 54 members. Armenia became a member in January 2019 for the term 2019-2021.
