Scientists in the Library!

 

We are really excited to announce our Scientists in the Library day, in partnership with Swindon Learning Town!  This also ties in beautifully with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, Space Chase!

There are general stalls on the day, along with workshops, some of which will be ticketed.  The evening will consist of talks, which you can get eventbrite tickets for (links below).

Daytime workshops:

Paul Hill, former teacher and astronomy enthusiast will lead workshops on a ‘Journey into Space’.  Tickets and further information can be found here  and here

Lisa Mullan is a biochemist and author of My DNA Diary.  She will be leading a workshop entitled ‘How to Build a Human’.  Tickets and further information to be found here

There will also be drop-in style workshops facilitated on a first-come-first serve basis, including slime-making.  Exhibitors include the Research Councils

FREE Evening talks:

Jetpack Jan will lead a talk on how to enthuse your child into the sciences!  This will be a fun, interactive session.  Find tickets and further information here.  There are also tickets available at the Central Library front desk

Lisa Mullan will lead a talk on DNA mutations, focusing on Cystic Fibrosis.  Find tickets and further information here.  There are also tickets available at the Central Library front desk

Brian Clegg, respected scientists and writer, will lead a talk on ‘Before the Big Bang’.  Find further information and tickets here.  There are also tickets available at the Central Library front desk.

Libby Jackson - credit Michael CockerhamLibby Jackson, a regular spokesperson for the UK Space Agency on matters relating to human spaceflight and exploration will be talking on ‘The UK Goes to the Moon’. Talks are for older children and adults and are FREE but numbers are limited so please book in advance as we won’t be able to guarantee entry ‘on the door’.
