Recap of the 2019 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit
Last month, energy innovators, investors, and policymakers gathered at the 10th annual ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit to discuss cutting-edge energy technologies and how to best transition technologies into the marketplace.

During the three-day program, attendees from across the United States and 16 other countries heard from industry and government leaders, networked at focused receptions and panel discussions, and saw first-hand nearly 300 technologies featured in ARPA-E’s Technology Showcase. This year’s showcase featured guided tours and eight live demonstrations.

ARPA-E Program Director and Fellow Fast Pitches

At this year’s Summit, each ARPA-E Program Director and Fellow delivered a "Fast Pitch," an eight-minute talk that explores a current program concept or a completely new, "out-of-the-box" idea.

ARPA-E is Compiling a Teaming Partner List to Support Multidisciplinary and Cross-Sector Collaboration
ARPA–E intends to issue a new Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) in September 2019 for technologies that will facilitate risk-driven electric grid management. ARPA–E strongly encourages outstanding scientists and engineers from different organizations, scientific disciplines, and technology sectors to form new project teams to enable and accelerate scientific and technological outcomes. Furthermore, ARPA-E strongly encourages involving industry partners to advise and collaborate with teams, with the ultimate goal of achieving successful industry adoption and integration of a new risk-driven operational and planning paradigm.

The Teaming Partner List is currently being compiled to facilitate the formation of new project teams. ARPA-E intends to make the Teaming Partner List available on ARPA–E’s online application portal, ARPA–E eXCHANGE, in August 2019. Once posted, the Teaming Partner List will be updated periodically, until the close of the Full Application period, to reflect new Teaming Partners who have provided their information.

Any organization that would like to be included on the Teaming Partner list should complete all required fields here.
What's Coming Down the Pipe with New Program Director Dr. Jack Lewnard
One of our newest Program Directors, chemical engineer Dr. Jack Lewnard, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from the utility sector as well as the energy non-profit world to ARPA-E. We recently sat down with Dr. Lewnard to discuss his background in natural gas technology development and commercialization, his career working at various stages of the R&D process, and what he’s looking to work on as a Program Director at ARPA-E.  ARPA-E Announces Funding Opportunity to Support Entrepreneurial Energy Discoveries within Small Businesses
ARPA-E recently added a new topic to the “Solicitation on Topics Informing New Program Areas,” a funding opportunity that enables ARPA-E to investigate potential new program areas.

The objective of this new topic, "Supporting Entrepreneurial Energy Discoveries (SEED)," is to identify and support disruptive concepts in energy-related technologies within small businesses, including collaborations with universities and national labs. Projects funded through SEED should have the potential for large-scale impact.

Awards may support exploratory research to establish viability, proof-of-concept demonstration for a new technology, and/or modeling and simulation efforts to guide development of new energy technologies. Full applications are due at 9:30 AM ET on October 8, 2019. To learn more about the Solicitation on Topics Informing New Program Areas and apply for funding, visit ARPA-E eXCHANGE.
