IIAC RESPONDS TO GOVERNMENT OF CANADA CONSULTATION ON PRIVACY REGULATION
The IIAC provided input on Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED)’s proposals to modernize thePersonal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. In doing so, we are pleased the government’s goal is to respect individuals and their privacy by providing them with meaningful control without creating onerous or redundant restrictions for business; enable responsible innovation on the part of organizations; and ensure an enhanced, reasoned enforcement model.
Our submission discussed ways in which this balance can be achieved in respect of matters relating to client consent, data mobility and online reputation, and how we can enable responsible innovation through enhanced enforcement and oversight.
The IIAC Data and Privacy Committee looks forward to meeting with appropriate governmental bodies to help shape this important regulation.
