Nurturing opportunity, dignity and hope in vulnerable communities in Bangladesh
About us
Friendship is a non-governmental organisation that helps poor people in Bangladesh. We make it our priority to reach communities in remote areas that are otherwise inaccessible. We strive to create sustainable solutions that work in the real world and help struggling communities become self-sufficient. The marginalised Char dwellers in Bangladesh count among the most underprivileged communities in the world. Our work began by making healthcare more accessible to them. We converted a barge into Friendship’s first floating hospital and it began its work in 2002 under the direction of Runa Khan (Founder and Executive Director). It soon became clear that to make a lasting impact on people’s lives we had to resolve other issues at the same time to break the cycle of poverty. We now focus our support on six programmes: - Health - Education - Disaster Management and Infrastructure Development - Good Governance - Sustainable Economic Development - Cultural Preservation. You can help us continue to bring life-saving services to Bangladesh’s marginalised men, women and children.

Our floating hospitals provide life-changing surgeries like cataract removal and clubfoot correction to people who would otherwise go untreated. Friendship continues to support families affected by the embankment breach in Assasuni, Satkhira with essential services. Yesterday alone, 1,364 liters of safe drinking water were distributed among families through our ongoing water distribution efforts. Approximately 35–40 families currently sheltering on the embankment are using our floating toilet daily, with no access to other sanitation facilities. These interventions remain vital as the community continues to cope with displacement and waterlogging. We remain committed to standing beside those affected, ensuring dignity, health, and safety through this crisis. #DisasterResponse #Satkhira #FloodRelief #WaterCrisis #CommunityResilience #ClimateJustice #friendshipngo
