Invest Lithuania, the official agency for foreign direct investment and business development in Lithuania, today announced that Rocket Software has opened a new development centre in Vilnius and plans to hire more than 200 engineers and programmers in the next 2-3 years. Rocket®, which was founded in 1990 in Boston, Massachusetts, employs 1500 Rocketeers around the world. The company specialises in Z Systems, Power Systems, and Database & Connectivity, and helps the world’s leading companies leverage open source, cloud, and artificial intelligence (AI) to support their ability to achieve legendary results.
“We want to create an innovative, next-generation software development centre that will become an integral part of the growing Rocket Software family,” said Andrew Baldrian, VP of Engineering at Rocket Software. “In Lithuania, we have found educated and experienced software engineers, as well as a favourable business environment that is allowing us to start our operations quickly and efficiently. With help from the team at Invest Lithuania, it was easy for us to explore and capture the potential that we were looking for in our new development centre.”
According to Mantas Katinas, General Manager at Invest Lithuania, Rocket Software’s decision to choose Lithuania for its new software development centre strengthens the country’s information and communications technology (ICT) ecosystem and bolsters Lithuania’s global presence as a technology hub in Northern Europe. “Rocket Software’s decision to settle in Vilnius demonstrates that Lithuania offers a pool of motivated, skilled software development specialists who can contribute to the company’s products and strategic goals at a global level. Rocket will bring the latest technologies, consulting practises and software development methods to Lithuania’s global business services industry.”
As part of its rollout in Lithuania, Rocket will work closely with local universities on joint study modules specifically designed for future software developers. The company also plans to get involved with local technology-related community events.
