9th International Adventure Therapy Conference: Norway June 20-25, 2022

Theme – Journeying Together

Journeying together is the theme of the upcoming conference – a journey in body, in mind and on a metaphorical level.

In 2022 it will be 25 years since the first international adventure therapy conference took place in Perth, Australia.

The International Adventure Therapy Conference (IATC) is held triennially and provides gatherings for adventure therapy practitioners, academics, researchers, politicians, allied professionals, and students within various fields. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 9IATC was postponed one year, making this year’s conference the 25th anniversary of IATC. In addition, we merged the international conference with the 3rd Gathering for Adventure Therapy in Europe (3GATE), and the 3GATE conference team is a highly valued co-organiser of the 2022 conference.

The 9th IATC is held in the south of Norway and offers an engaging forum for the growth and development of adventure therapy worldwide. More than 100 practitioners and academics from 24 countries will present the latest research and share their experience-based knowledge in practical workshops during this five-day conference.

CATS7 Final Report

Finally getting around to posting the final summary and recommendations from the 7th Canadian Adventure Therapy Symposium (CATS). Apologies from the custodian of this space, me. See the report section for all 7 CATS Reports; the historical archive and narrative of these gatherings and those who have attended them.

This last CATS was held in Whitehorse, Yukon, in September 2019. The CATS advisory board, of which I am a member, has spent the time since focusing our collective energies on the now-cancelled Canadian Outdoor Summit project. Covid-19 derailed those plans and we have not planned future CATS gatherings in the mean time.

The CATS advisory board hopes to present a plan for another gathering in the near future.

Brand New: Outdoor Therapies Book 2020

Get it here.

Drawing on the leading voices of international researchers and practitioners, Outdoor Therapies provides readers with an overview of practices for the helping professions.

Sharing outdoor approaches ranging from garden therapy to wilderness therapy and from equine-assisted therapy to surf therapy, Harper and Dobud have drawn common threads from therapeutic practices that integrate connection with nature and experiential activity to redefine the "person-in-environment" approach to human health and well-being. Readers will learn about the benefits and advantages of helping clients get the treatment, service, and care they need outside of conventional, office-based therapies.

Providing readers with a range of approaches that can be utilized across a variety of practice settings and populations, this book is essential reading for students, practitioners, theorists, and researchers in counseling, social work, youth work, occupational therapy, and psychology.

International Adventure Therapy Conference 2022: Kristiansand, Norway

Velkommen til Norge!

 June 21-26, 2020 (Postponed due to Covid-19)

9th International Adventure Therapy Conference

From the host website: https://9iatc.internationaladventuretherapy.org/

"Following an absolutely wonderful 8IATC in Australia, we will transition from the southern hemisphere across to the opposite side of the globe. With the support of the Nordic Outdoor Therapy Network (NOTN), we are proud to host the first IATC in this region. And with the return of IATC to Europe, we collaborate with Adventure Therapy Europe (ATE) in order for 9IATC to also incorporate the Gathering for Adventure Therapy in Europe (GATE).

The conference will take place in the Agder region in the southernmost part of Norway. Beginning in the coastal city of Kristiansand we will camp together at the beautiful Odderøya island. Then midway through the conference, we will move camp into the Norwegian mountain village of Hovden – symbolizing the conference theme of ”journeying together” – as we travel from the seaside to the mountains."

This is an amazing international gathering of practitioners, researchers, students, and commmunity stakeholders involved in a wide range of helping and healing practices. Check out the embedded links above for more details and images!

Be well,

Nevin
