British AI company Satalia expanding Lithuanian development and R&D operations

February 14, 2020

Satalia, the full-stack AI company, has announced plans to expand its operations in Kaunas, Lithuania. Over the next two years, the company intends to hire up to 50 new employees and expects its Kaunas office to grow as its core location for development and R&D projects.

Satalia, a UK-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) and optimization company, last year fully acquired Data Dog, a Kaunas-based IT company. Since 2014, the Lithuanian company together with their UK peers has developed and delivered a number of full-stack AI solutions for its clients – an offering currently absent within the industry. Satalia in recent years has implemented numerous optimisations, machine learning and software engineering innovations, including a routing optimisation and planning system for Tesco, a major UK retailer, which saved them over 11,000,000 miles of travel last year. One of Satalia’s solutions was recently named Best AI Product in Transport and Logistics at Cognition X, a world-renowned AI conference, and is also shortlisted for the ‘Best Use of Innovation’ award at the Delivery Conference.

According to Daniel Hulme, Satalia’s CEO, Lithuania is already an essential location for Satalia’s development activities, thanks to its strong footprint in computer science, tech and academic research.

“We reckon Lithuanians, especially those in the tech and academic communities, for their proven ambition to explore the AI and machine learning fields,” states Hulme.

Mantas Katinas, the managing director of Invest Lithuania, hopes that Satalia’s growing presence will help to further strengthen the country’s competencies in Artificial Intelligence.

“Whenever we have a new investment, we always encourage the company not to overlook the full potential of Lithuania and its strong talent pool of IT specialists and engineers. I am delighted to hear that Satalia recognise professionals here and that joined forces are creating high value-added projects with huge potential,” says Mr Katinas.

“We have always believed in competences of Kaunas’ residents and we are always glad when  companies like  Satalia choose our city. With a number of discussions taking place about the future of technology, we are happy that ideas are becoming reality here.   We hope this  sector would develop into one of the economic drivers of the region over  the next decade,” – states Kaunas IN Director, Tadas Stankevičius.

Satalia plans to actively contribute to Lithuania’s continued development in the tech and computer science fields: “We intend to further partner with both the academic community and the broader tech scene. Partnering with universities is a way to meet in person the brightest minds, introducing them to real cases of the market and also to inspire them and to show a broad spectrum of perspectives they have. We do want to give back to our alma mater while engaging with specialists from tech circles allows us to share insights and gain new knowledge from the innovators in the field”, says Hulme.

Currently, the company is looking for Java software engineers, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, product owners and project managers, data scientists, machine learning engineers and various administrative roles.
