We are celebrating the International Day of Happiness for the third time in Kaunas city and its district.

People and businesses actively engaged in this day last year: 150 various organizations joined the celebration creating 250 events for those who find it harder to get involved in cultural events: museums, libraries, exhibitions, public objects. And those who gathered to spend this day together wouldn’t fit even into two Žalgiris arenas – 36 500 people joined the festival. This year the celebration will take place on the 20th of March. The main theme of this year’s festival is Happiness to get along.

Happiness to get along
What does it mean to you? Is it being able to get along with your friends, neighbours, colleagues, family members? But what about nature, plants, and animals, the Earth? Are we the owners of this planet, or are we guests, just like other forms of life? Do we care, what planet we will leave behind for future generations? How we preserve its resources, cleanliness, and quality? What ‘sustainability’ means in our lives and activities?
We invite all communities of neighborhoods, museums, libraries, schools, business companies, kindergartens, clubs, retirement homes, and others to actively involve into the celebration of International Day of Happiness on the 20th of March for the cleaner, greener and more sustainable future.

How to get involved in Day of Happiness?
Here are a few ideas for you:

  • Organize an open exchange party in your office: you won’t believe how many gadgets of your everyday life could find their place and live happily ever after elsewhere. So, exchange clothes, plants, household items.
  • Organize an open lecture about resource-saving. Don’t use any disposable items (plastic bottles, disposable cutlery, etc.) during the event.
  • Coordinate your colleagues to go to the office by bike or by foot – that doesn’t cost a thing, but rather gives you a smile, energy, a communal sense and inspiration for work,
  • Bring broken pieces of porcelain and pottery (bowls, cups, souvenirs, etc.) to Kaunas 2022   office (Laisvės al. 36).
  • Have lunch at the office for the Day of Happiness: bring your home-made meals and eat together with your colleagues. Have a win-win situation – less consuming and more bonding with your co-workers.
  • Vegetarian or vegan day: try to live in a different way for one day.
  • Eat all of your food on the Day of Happiness. Did you know, that by dumping your food, you also throw away water, that have been used to grow and make it?
  • Start recycling and support the culture of recycling.
