Unrequited: A Rock Star Romance (Unrequited Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 1,994 ratings

My proper southern belle mama might disagree, but I say I was born to be a rebel. From the second I got my hands on a pair of drumsticks, my future was sealed. I never fit in anyway, not with my rocker soul and curves that never take a day off.

But what’s a drummer without a band? Oh, that’s right. A cocktail waitress.

That is, until the chance of a lifetime falls into my lap—Unrequited needs a drummer, and I happen to have an ‘in’ with the band.

The only trouble is, Santiago Garza, Unrequited’s broody, scowly bassist, doesn’t want me in his band, which is kind of funny, considering he was the one who took my heart and stomped all over it five years ago.

My career is far more important than hurt feelings though, so Santiago can suck it up and deal. That’s what I’m doing, no matter how many times I remember the feel of his lips on mine. I won’t fall for him this time. I’m done being anyone’s second choice.

Review

"Just when I think I couldn't love this author even more, she goes and writes a book that resonates so deeply within my soul. This is so much more than a rockstar romance: it's about self love, that beauty is more than what society tells us it is, the power of family, and that true love will prevail through everything." -Jenifer

"These two together are a beautiful view of the magnificence of
true love." -Britt, Red Hatters Book Blog

"Santiago's loyalty was admirable, his
dirty talk was panty melting, and his sweetness totally swoon worthy." -Jolene

"Oh my!! Julia Wolf did it again! I laughed out loud, cried tears of sadness and
tears of joy." -Nicole

"Maeve is every woman who's ever been told she doesn't fit the mold. She owns her
curves and sways those hips to the beat of her own drum. When she's on stage, those drums get louder." -Beth"Thank you, Julia Wolf, for giving us a girl to pull for who doesn't have a perfect body. She's genuinely one of the gutsiest girls I've read about in a long time." -Trish"Julia is at it again...... making me fall in love with her rock stars. ;) Although this go around I have a major GIRL CRUSH on Maeve O'Day!" -Amber"Santi and Maeve are such amazing characters. I love that Maeve isn't a size 2, and that Santi is loyal beyond belief." -Mandy

Julia Wolf writes sexy rockers, grumpy billionaires, snarky heroines, and bad ass women. She’s a firm believer in happily ever afters, no matter how rocky the road is to get there.

She doesn’t believe in “guilty pleasures”, only pleasure. Reading about a plus size woman who gets absolutely railed by a hot rock star is pleasure. Reading about a damaged college student whose flaws are valued and loved by the grumpy guy next door is pleasure. Reading about love in a small town or big city or on a tour bus is pleasure. Reading romance is pleasure!

Julia lives in Maryland with her husband and three crazy, beautiful children. When she’s not writing romance, she’s reading it. Some of her favorite things are, in no particular order: goats, books, coffee, and Target.

I stumbled upon this book when trying to fulfill a reading challenge prompt and I’m SO glad I got this recommendation - Unrequited was everything I didn’t know I needed in a rockstar romance and I loved Maeve and Santiago’s story!

Maeve O’Day was raised to be the perfect Southern Belle - sweet, demure and attentive. But she has always had a rebel heart and broke out of the mold her parents made for her to become a rock and roll drummer. She’s funny, badass, so likable, confident in her own skin (even though she’s a curvy girl in a world that favors supermodel types) and has impressive skills when she sits behind a drum kit. After years of trying to make it in the music world, she gets a chance at her big break. But it just so happens to be with the band she knew growing up and the first man who broke her heart.

Santiago Garza is the tattooed, older bass player for Unrequited and finds himself in a tough spot after his younger brother up and quits the band one day. He’s stoic, serious and a tough nut to crack because he keeps so much to himself. But under it all, he’s incredibly sweet and loving - two things he keeps to himself after breaking his own heart years ago when he sent Maeve on her way.

Maeve and Santi have a complicated backstory and I loved how realistic and not overly dramatic it was. Once they’re forced to spend time with each other in rehearsals and on tour, their old pain comes to a head and they have to get past it to move forward. But, throughout the tour and the more they talk it out, the closer they get and the more serious their feelings become. Their relationship happens slowly, but that build was so worth the wait and made me love them together even more. They’re open and honest about their pasts and their feelings, supportive in the best ways and truly can’t get enough of each other.

The other guys in the band, Mo and Murray, added a lot of character and fun to the book and I loved the appearances by Maeve’s best friend Haven. This was a great introduction to the Unrequited screw and I’m really excited to read more about each of them!

Too Young To Know

Do I like this story? Yes. Do I love this story? Again, yes.

Here's why:

For me as a Latina, the story is relatable, because I could picture the Garza family. They could fit into any family I know. Men who love deeply and passionately and love their women deeply and passionately, including all her curves.

I can see the story play out like a movie which is important to me, because it means Julia has done a great job in writing Santiago and Maeve's story. It also means she has given us a cast of characters that you want to know even more. The support from the side characters the FMC receives is nice to see. Most authors tend to include another female character that is usually mean or backstabbing. That isn't the case, here.

Lastly, the spice is there, and it takes a while to get there, but it does. It's great when it does. This story is sweet and a great read. I'm sure you'll find something that will endear you to it.

I took a little break from reading because everything was starting to be the same to me. This was a sweet way to get back into it. Their love story is really cute, and I love that she gets the guy she always loved at the end. Idk if I'll read the whole series, but this book was a good one.

I wasn't sure going into this series if it would be a favorite of mine like Blue Is The Color turned into. I'm happy I was wrong with being unsure because this was a great story. I love Maeve and Santiago was awesome. They both had insecurities yet worked through them together. It had a classic "Hallmark" ending, but I loved it.

Maeve is a kick ass female lead. She is gorgeous, smart, funny and a badass rocker. And Santi into the mix. A sexy moody bass player. What more could you ask for? Oh wait, a awesome rock tour, amazing friends whose interactions with the leads leave you giggling and wishing you were part of the world. I absolutely love Julia Wolf's work. Never fails to make me laugh out loud. Cry and shake my fists. But give me that so sweet happy ending I crave.

So it's the age old story girl fall for boy and boy rejects girl, only in this story boy really liked the girl but so did his brother.
Maeve is an 18 southern belle with a big secret very few people know she falls for Santiago who is older and he shoots her down. This changes the course of Maeve's life forever and ultimately Santiago's as well.

Maeve's secret was she is a extremely talented drummer who ends up filling in as drummer in the band Unrequited and you got it Santiago's band.

I can't tell you how amazing it is when the female lead in a book is as badass as Maeve, I absolutely adore her. She is strong and sticks to her guns and refuses to be bullied about.

Santiago is a great brother and a natural protector but he learned a lot about himself through his brother Diego's problems.

Can't wait to read the next book already.

Fantastic book absolutely recommend.

My first book by Julia Wolf. I couldn't put it down.
It's well written, the characters are multi-layered, the connections surprising, the plot intriguing.
It was my first book, but won't be my last from Ms Wolf!

I don’t know why I was so drawn to this book. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything else by this author but the blurb drew me in. I must have been in need of a rock star fix and this one was a bit different.

Maeve is a curvy waitress who is waiting to be a full time drummer. She is a sweet and pretty southern girl who also likes to drum hard core rock. I loved her contrasts and how they formed her character from conflicts with her parents who wanted a southern belle daughter to being let down by people who could only see the sweet and pretty side of her personality. She was both sides of her personality, there was no split.

When Maeve was 18 she met a 25 year old man, Santiago, who was the bass player in her friend’s brother’s band. She had a huge crush on him but he hurt her when he rejected her. Five years later her old friend walks into the bar she is working and they reconnect. Her old friend comes to her latest gig and everything is thrown up into the air.

Santiago grew up hard but loved his family with all his heart. He was rough and sweet at the same time. I really enjoyed reading about him and his past. His relationship with Maeve was complicated and very simple at the same time. Their feelings for one another were only confused because of perceptions.

This is a feel good rock story, which was well written and entertaining. I’ll definitely be looking out for the next book in the series.
