Biggest book fair in Baltics kicks off in Vilnius – photos

The international Vilnius Book Fair kicked off in Vilnius on Thursday with a special focus on the Lithuanian legendary artist Jonas Mekas

Over 500 different talks, presentations and various events are held during the four opening days, attracting more than 60,000 visitors, according to the press release.

In line with this year’s focus on Jonas Mekas and his words, “you should live without formulas [and] be open to the world,” the event seeks new ways for freedom in self-expression.

Children‘s and Young Adults Book Hall presents Lithuanian and foreign publishers, as well as a space where young readers can read, talk, play and meet their book characters and writers.

Creative Studio hosts creative workshops, readings, meetings with authors of children's literature, as well as international and Lithuanian book illustrators.

Forum hosts discussions and conversations with well-known Lithuanian and foreign representatives of culture, art, business and science. The participants of the traditional Vilnius Book Fair Discussion Club will present a cycle of engaging discussions.

LRT Hall broadcasts meetings with well-known guests of the Vilnius Book Fair.

Music Hall features live music shows, organised together with Lithuanian Neighbouring Rights Association AGATA.

Library Open. Friendly and modern library created by the Lithuanian Librarians Association offers a space for reading and networking.

The Book Cinema Hall presents screenings of the latest movies based on books, as well as documentaries about writers, poets and artists.

Vilnius Book Fair takes place between February 20–23.
