Keeping Sunday Holy
when we can not gather for Mass

In keeping with AHS directives to protect seniors and those with pre-existing health conditions against COVID-19, the Diocese of Calgary has cancelled all Masses from March 17 to April 5, 2020. The Bishops of Alberta and Northwest Territories jointly decided to apply similar measures across the dioceses.

On March 16, Bishop McGrattan wrote a letter to all pastors, deacons, lay association leaders, religious orders and the Faithful decreeing the cancellation of Masses until April 5.

Bishop McGrattan encourages all Catholics to pray at home, either by watching the live streamed Masses, having a time of prayer, following readings of the Sunday Mass, and practising a spiritual communion. Here is the list of resources available on our website:

We invite you to make these resources available to your community. Please note this list is not exhaustive. We invite you to share with us additional resources to share with the faithful in our Diocese. Email us at communications@calgarydiocese.ca

The Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of our Christian life. It deeply troubled our Bishop, and all Bishops of AB & NWT to make the decision to cancel Masses in our provinces. Here are some words from Bishop McGrattan about the latest measures in our fight against the spread of COVID-19.

    St. Joseph, pray for us.
