Discussed in MFJ 71 review of Migrating Worlds at Yale Center for British Art

Dear Readers,

MFJ No. 71 is print ready. It is a fine issue. But since the editing and designing were performed between December 2019 and February 2020, the manuscript contains no acknowledgement of the pandemic crisis that has erupted since then. There is an underlying sense of foreboding in the issue, as captured in its proposed title “Conflict.”

But it would be insensitive and unethical for us to send out a publication in mid-April that blithely ignores the greatest crisis that most of our readers have experienced, and that many will be living through this Spring. We are also concerned about the processes of printing and distribution—the possible transmission of the virus through and within the postal service, or those tasked with producing print copies of the issue.

The MFJ editors have decided to delay MFJ No. 71 and include it as part of a double-sized issue. MFJ 71/72 will publish later in 2020. Complimentary excerpts from the postponed issue have been uploaded to our website millenniumfilmjournal.com.

We are soliciting text contributions for MFJ 71/72, including reviews of streaming screenings and film festivals, book reviews, and essays on the impacts of the crisis specific to the moving image community at large. We welcome your further suggestions. Please submit text and image proposals to mfj@mfj-online.org. And watch for the MFJ Shelter-in-Place Survey soon to be sent to the artist moving image community.

The MFJ team sends best wishes to our followers, subscribers, writers, contributors, readers and friends. Stay safe. Stay healthy. To those who are ill, we wish you a rapid recovery. And to those of you who have suffered losses, we mourn with you.
