Lithuania plans to send 100,000 euros-worth of aid to Italy and Spain, the worst-hit EU nations by the coronavirus, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said on Tuesday.
The funds will be taken from the government's reserve and spent on medical supplies and ventilators, he said.
“I believe that Lithuania’s people will understand and support this decision. When fighting to prevent loss of human life, solidarity with our partners in Europe and elsewhere is vital,” Skvernelis said in a Facebook post.
“This money will be spent on the purchase of necessities, such as face shields, respirators as well as medical equipment used to maintain respiratory function. It’s highly symbolic and important that all these supplies are made in Lithuania,” he added.
Spain has 141,942 confirmed coronavirus cases and 14,045 deaths, and Italy 135,586 cases and 17,127 deaths.
