RE:         COVID-19 Best Practices and ADA Recommendations to Re-open Golf Courses

Last week, Governor Pritzker extended his stay-at-home order through May 30, 2020, with some modifications to allow certain businesses/facilities to open, with limitations. Golf courses are among the facilities that can open beginning May 1.

In addition to the state safety requirements for re-opening, your county, city and/or town may have more stringent guidelines governing golf course openings that you must meet. Among other considerations is the risk level of the tasks your employees must perform, proper cleaning/sanitizing, maintaining social distancing between and among employees and the public, and managing golfers from entrance through exit of your course.

There are also Americans with Disability Act (ADA) considerations. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (IL DCEO) has provided requirements for re-opening courses that include reference to making golf carts available to individuals with a physical disability or limitation. However, IL DCEO does not indicate how to determine whether someone qualifies to use a cart.

For more information about Risk Management best practices for re-opening your golf course as well as ADA recommendations, please download PDRMA’s COVID-19 Best Practices and ADA Recommendations to Re-open Golf Courses.
