Hi! Welcome to the second ever Rolling as Kalou newsletter.

I hope you are well where you are, staying safe and sane.

Firstly, here are two links to tickle your curiosity and maybe spark a new idea or project. The first one, The Ultimate guide to Reinventing Yourself by James Altucher, is one I read through every now and again, usually if I’m feeling a bit off-track. The second one is a mind-blowingly excellent look at creativity in comic form by The Oatmeal. I encourage you to look through the whole thing.

Pencil hero portraits appear to be my new thing, at least at the moment. The social media campaign for The Basaloid Project left me a bit rattled, to be honest. But I learned a lot, for sure, and have an idea of how I might do it differently next time. Drawing portraits of people: creative, awesome, badass people, has been a good way for me to calm back down. Not sure where it might go, if anywhere. For now it’s just nice to draw. Here's a few of my favourites so far.

And below, some Rolling as Kalou news.

On April 9, The Basaloid Project launched via Zoom and a flurry of posts on social media. Thanks to everyone who showed up and looked at the virtual exhibition.

In case you missed it, HERE is a link to the exhibition catalogue. It also has the artwork prices, should you wish to buy some art. If so, email me directly or email Simone at the Incubator, thanks.

The exhibition has been extended until the 2nd of June. I hope to be able to have small group viewings before I take the show down. If this becomes possible, as New Zealand goes to Level 2, I will let you know.

The Basaloid “Create Your Own One-Page Autobiographical Comic” online workshop is up and running. It is free and you can easily do it at home. Click HERE to download.

Book deliveries update: Thanks for purchasing the Basaloid comic. I have been hand-delivering the local orders and have bought stamps to post to Auckland. I’m hoping to be able to post the international orders next week, when the post office reopens in level 2. Thanks for your patience.

Amazon doesn’t appear to be able to print & ship at all at the moment, though the Kindle edition works fine :)

If you would like a signed, limited edition copy, click HERE and I will get it to you as soon as I can. Thanks!

And lastly, here is an interview I did with Claudette Martin for the pEople in their Bubbles Zoom Library initiative. I waffle on about process and creativity.

Until next time, be wel! I hope you enjoyed this newsletter. If you did,  please forward it to a friend.

Thank you,

Kalou x
