Garden waste
Garden waste can either be composted at home, collected from your home on an optional, paid-for basis or taken to the household waste recycling centre (HWRC).
A garden waste collection subscription costs £62.99 per bin, per year. We make a collection fortnightly, apart from a two-week suspension over Christmas, as specified in the service terms and conditions.
We collect garden waste in wheelie bins or re-useable bags that are supplied by us. The wheelie bins and bags are green. These should be placed at the nearest point of your property to the highway by 6.30am on your collection day.

We provide subscribers with a 240L bin unless the subscriber receives blue bags for general household rubbish. In this case, we provide three re-useable green bags.
Waste should be loose in your bin or bags, not inside any plastic or paper bags or liners. If you use a bin, the lid should be shut flat. Any excess waste left on top or to the side of the bin will not be collected.

What should and shouldn't go in
Your garden waste is composted and recycled into environmentally-friendly soil improver. Here’s a quick guide to what should and shouldn’t go in your wheelie bin or bags:
Yes please:
- Flowers
- Plants and shrubs
- Grass cuttings
- Leaves
- Hedge trimmings
- Non-noxious weeds
- Twigs and small branches (no larger than the width of your wrist)
- Pond plants
- Bedding of vegetarian pets (for example, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters)
No thanks:
- Food waste including eggshells and peelings (this should go in your non-recyclable household waste)
- Earth, soil, rubble, stones or hardcore
- Plant pots or trays
- Plastics sacks
- Treated wood
- Noxious weeds such as Japanese knotweed and rhododendron
- Pet waste or bedding
- Bedding or waste of carnivorous pets (for example, cats, dogs)
Missed collections
We will collect garden waste wheelie bins or bags that meet the requirements stated above.
If a bin or bag has not been collected when you believe it should have been, you should report a missed collection by 12 midnight on the working day that follows the missed collection.
Assisted collection
An assisted collection is available for people who are physically unable to take waste containers to the front of their property. If you already receive an assisted collection for your rubbish and recycling, this will automatically be applied to your garden waste collections.
