Hello Readers,

I can't believe some, if not most, of us are still in quarantine.  My heart goes out to each and every one of you who has been affected.  Soon, we will be back to normal.  Or the new normal.  In the meantime, be strong and be safe.  And read.

**THERE'S A MONTHLY GIVEAWAY BELOW.   DON'T MISS IT.**

I often tell you about new books I'm working on or that are coming out.  Well, the first Fairy Garden Mystery, A SPRINKLING OF MURDER, comes out in 4 weeks.  I'm very excited.  It's getting lovely reviews.

"Daryl Wood Gerber’s new fantasy cozy series debut is full of fun, whimsy, and a baffling whodunit . . ."  –Mystery Scene

â€śEnchanting series launch from Agatha Award winner Gerber . . . Cozy fans will wish upon a star for more.” –Publishers Weekly.

Here are 5 things you should know about the series.

  1. Charlotte Kelly, a former landscaper, recently opened a fairy garden store named Open Your Imagination.
  2. Fiona, a sprightly righteous fairy, is a fairy-in-training.
  3. The series is set in Carmel-by-the-Sea, a charming, artsy town on the coast of California, south of San Francisco, that is bursting with positive energy.
  4. A fairy garden can be made in the garden, beneath a tree, or in pots and other assorted planters, or on a bookshelf . . .   You get the idea.  Anywhere that suits your imagination.  They feature fairy figurines and fairy houses and doors, or environmental items like swings, mailboxes, and trellises. There are a variety of miniature plants to use to keep fairy gardens in scale. I happen to use succulents in my gardens, seeing as I live in Los Angeles.
  5. Lastly, when does the book come out? June 30.

What is it about?

Fairy garden store owner Courtney Kelly believes in inviting magic into your life. But when uninvited trouble enters her shop, she’ll need more than a sprinkling of her imagination to solve a murder . . .

Since childhood, Courtney has loved fairies. After her mother died when she was ten, she lost touch with that feeling of magic. A year ago, at age twenty-nine, she rediscovered it when she left her father's landscaping business to spread her wings and start a fairy garden business and teashop in beautiful Carmel, California. At Open Your Imagination, she teaches garden design and sells everything from fairy figurines to tinkling wind chimes and trickling fountains. Now she's starting a book club tea.

But the light of the magical world she's created inside her shop is darkened one night when she discovers neighboring dog-grooming business owner Mick Watkins dead beside a fountain. To make matters worse, the police suspect Courtney of the crime. To clear her name and find the real killer, Courtney will have to wing it. But she’s about to get a little help from an unexpected new friend . . .

What's new?

I'm working on the 3rd Aspen Adams novel of suspense.  I don't have a title, but I have a completed first draft.  Now I'm editing and picking it to pieces.  Oh, the joy of writing!  If you have a suggestion for a two word title,  I'd love to hear it.   Write me at daryl@darylwoodgerber.com

And now for the Giveaway

I am giving away 2 copies of  Shredding the Evidence  to 2 of my newsletter subscribers.  Is one of them you?  Surprisingly last month's winners didn't contact me for the ARCs I gave away.  I even sent each an individual email. What's up with that?  Here are the 2 names for this giveaway.

What are you reading?

I just finished The Diva Spices it Up by Krista Davis. It was wonderful and filled with intrigue. I adore this series. I also listened to Alison Gaylin's suspenseful And She Was.  The lead character, an investigator, is fascinating.  She suffers from hyperthymesia, meaning she remembers every second of hr life down to the last detail.  A blessing and a curse.  Also, I read a delightful historical called A Fatal Finale, by Kathleen Marple Kalb.  It was quite a fun romp.  What are you reading?

What's to eat?

This is such an easy recipe and perfect for throwing together when you just want something sweet and delicious.  Enjoy.

Chocolate Dump Cake

(regular or gluten-free; serves 12 - 16)

  • 1 pkg. chocolate cake mix *regular or gluten-free, if necessary
  • 1 pkg. chocolate instant pudding *make sure this is gluten-free
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 cup safflower oil
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Powdered sugar, if desired

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

Dump all the ingredients into a bowl. Mix. How easy is that? Pour into greased bundt pan. Cook 45-55 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. The top should spring back if pressed lightly with your finger.

Cool 10 minutes. Turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.

What’s up with Sparky?

Sparky is trying to decide which books I should give for my rebooted quarantine book giveaway on my Facebook author page. Why rebooted?  Well, I'd started giving them away at the onset of shelter-in-place, but then I took a couple weeks to promote SHREDDING THE EVIDENCE.  Seeing as we were still in quarantine after that burst of PR energy, I restarted the giveaway.  I'm giving away a book a day until California is out of quarantine.  So don't miss out.  Go to my Facebook page to enter.  By the way, Sparky can be quite discerning.  Will he pick you?

That's it. That's all that is fit to print.
May your joy come from reading.
May your lives be filled with love.

Until next time…all my best,
