‘Aviation is climbing out of a deep hole.’ 70 routes to resume from Lithuanian airports

With air travel gradually resuming in Europe, Lithuanian airports are planning to launch flights to some 70 destinations in July, including to Dubrovnik in Croatia and London Gatwick.

“A number of the airlines and flight destinations that we had before the quarantine are returning to our airports,” Tadas Vasiliauskas, a spokesman for Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports), told BNS.

This month, Lithuania's three international airports – in Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga – are resuming flights to Warsaw, Helsinki, Brussels and Vienna.

Routes to Greece and Bulgaria are relaunching from Vilnius Airport this week.

In previous years, over 90 destinations would be accessible from Lithuania by air in July. Even though the plans this summer fall short of that level, they are “a very good result”, according to Vasiliauskas.

“The passenger aviation sector is climbing out of a deep hole to reach its previous levels,” he said.

Lithuania closed its airspace for passenger flights on April 4 as part of its nationwide quarantine measures.

The country started resuming air travel in mid May.
