Welcome to your Mead Way newsletter

This newsletter provides key updates on the Mead Way improvement scheme and details of any road closures and diversions which may affect you, your staff or your customers.

This newsletter is issued monthly to update you on progress but if you'd like any more information, you can find this on our website or by contacting the team.

If you’re new to the newsletter, you can read the previous editions here.

What's been happening?

Work has continued along Mead Way during lockdown, which has been challenging at times for all involved and we would like to thank you for your patience while these works are ongoing.

Kerbside gullies have been installed in the south section of Mead Way. The old approach traffic islands have been removed as part of the site clearance and the new islands have been built. Approximately 30m of traffic signal ducting and associated chambers have also been installed, which you can see in the photo below.

The utilities that were previously restricted from attending sites nationally by COVID-19 are now beginning to carry out their diversion work.

The street lighting columns have now also been installed.

The stretch of road between the Meads and Westmead roundabouts still remains under a full 24/7 closure.

Support for businesses affected by COVID-19

We know that COVID-19 has posed some real challenges for many local businesses, so we wanted to highlight some of the support and help available.

Government grants are available for eligible small businesses and those in the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure industries. You can find more information and the full criteria on our website. Here, you'll also find details of support available to businesses who may not be eligible for government grants but still need advice.

What's happening next?

  • The contractor is currently laying the ducting in readiness for the electrical supply that feeds the street lighting columns
  • Kerb installation work is to continue
  • Further utilities will attend site to divert their apparatus
  • Adjustments to existing covers will be carried out

Work will continue at Mead Way for as long as we are able to, but we are closely following government guidance and making changes to the programme where necessary.

Safety on site - please be aware

It has become apparent that some members of the public have been entering and travelling through the site. This is a live construction site and fenced off for the safety of the public. Please do not enter it under any circumstances.
