The National Museum of Lithuania has received more than 130 exhibits since April when it published an open invitation for people to send various items related to the coronavirus pandemic.
The most interesting exhibits will be put on display shortly, while the museum may hold a larger exhibition dedicated to the pandemic in the future.
“We’ve got a response to our initiative and are moving to the second stage which involves physical delivery of exhibits,” Rūta Kačkutė, director of the museum, told BNS.
Among the most interesting exhibits is a T-shirt with thirty embroidered words or phrases associated with the lockdown as well as wedding face masks created by fashion designers, she said.
“Of course, we also collect items reflecting the actual situation. We’ve got travel notes from Asia and also an excerpt from a personal journal written in Italy, that is, people traveled in other countries during the lockdown and kept diaries describing changes in the situation,” Kačkutė said.
A similar diary written in Lithuania would allow to compare how the pandemic was experienced in different countries, she added.
The museum will also seek to acquire coronavirus tests and the authorities of several towns have already donated lockdown warning signs.
Digital exhibits, such as entries from online personal journals, digital photos and video clips, are also welcome, the museum said.
