GLOBE AND MAIL OP-ED
Battling systemic economic racism: A few suggestions for the way forward
Ian Russell, IIAC President and CEO, and Michael Williams, Chief Risk Officer, General Counsel with Richardson GMP Ltd., co-authored an op-ed published in the Globe and Mail. It outlines the perpetuation of systemic economic racism and how previous top down measures have not allowed for sustained and lasting change in the past. The future must embrace innovative thinking and bottom up solutions aimed at building economic opportunity for Black communities, such as a Black-Owned Equity Plan patterned on the UK Enterprise Investment Scheme, and open banking to provide alternative sources of financing to struggling Black-owned businesses.
