Quick Action Required of CMS Families

COVID-19 has presented many challenges, including some difficult choices for schooling.  Like other CMS parents, I am worried about the virus, I wish my children could return to in-person learning, and I am concerned about how that can be done safely for students, teachers, and staff. CMS has worked hard to create some options for the fall, and it's time for students and families to choose.  Be sure you understand the choices and don't miss the registration deadline for the Full Remote Academy. Families have until 11:59 pm on Sunday, July 26 to opt into the Full Remote Academy if that is your preference.

Here is the presentation from the School Board meeting on Tuesday night. I found it helpful in explaining the two options.

Tonight at 7 p.m., CMS will be holding a virtual question and answer session about the Full Remote Academy on the CMS Facebook and YouTube channels.

If you are not sure what plan is best for your child, you can also call CMS at 980-343-3001 or your child's school to ask questions.

US Census

So far, only 61% of Mecklenburg County residents have completed the Census.

Why does this matter? Census results determine the number of seats each state has in the House of Representatives and are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.

This data is also used to determine which communities get additional resources for schools, roads, and services for families, older adults, and children.

In other words, this is urgent. Go to to MeckCounts2020.com to ensure our community receives its fair representation and allocation of state and federal dollars.

Immunization Clinic for Kids!

Did you know there has been a dramatic drop in the number of children getting immunized?  CMS requires that all students present evidence that they have a completed immunization record.

Mecklenburg Public Health will host a back-to-school immunization clinic this Saturday, July 25, at Beatties Ford Road Health Department, 2845 Beatties Ford Rd., Charlotte.

Appointments are available from 8a-5p. Call 704-336-6500 or visit meckhealth.org for more information.
