'I want to make everything in this beautiful book. An absolute treasure.' Rosie Birkett, author of THE JOYFUL HOME COOK

Marianna Leivaditaki is a natural storyteller. She grew up in Chania, on the Greek island of Crete, and spent her childhood helping out in the family-run taverna. After school, she carried around her blue notebook, writing down all the recipes she would like to cook, helped by the Greek grannies' kitchen wisdom. Marianna's love for the food of her heritage flows off every page, but she also has a contemporary take on it. As head chef of Morito in Hackney, she has championed high-quality ingredients, presenting them in simple, stunning sharing plates, and has been critically acclaimed for doing so.

These inspirational recipes derive from the SEA, the LAND and the MOUNTAINS. We all know the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet, rich in olive oil, fresh vegetables and fruit, nuts, fish and whole grains, as well as the importance of how you eat and appreciate your food. Marianna offers achievable, yet delicious dishes celebrating seasonal, fresh food that you can take time to enjoy with friends and family.

When I ordered this book I was not sure what I would be getting but the recipes are truly lovely and the photographs are truly stunning. Great work. There is so much I want to cook from this book. She covers seafood, meat and vegetables and salads and dessert and cakes so everything is covered. A truly lovely book to add to your collection.

I've been looking forward to this book for a little while now. If you've ever had the pleasure of tasting Marianna's food at Morito Hackney Rd, you know. Her passion for her native Crete shines through on every page of this book.

This is a celebration of simple, honest flavours that to me typify Cretan food. The Mountains, Land and of course being a fisherman's daughter the Sea all get solid representation. I love Marianna's straight forward approach to her recipes. The personal stories dotted about sharing her culinary journey make this more than a recipe book.

It didn't take long to ear-mark several recipes I want to try. "Beef Cheeks with Potatoes," "Prawns with Ouzo, Orzo and Courgette," "Tomato and Oregano Fritters with whipped Feta" as well as some classics "Lamb Cutlets with Lemon and Oregano," "Stuffed Vine Leaves," "Cretan Summer Salad," and the beautiful "Kakavia," a one pot fish stew, just to name a few. Honestly, I would've bought the book for the Orange and Broken Filo Pastry Pie alone (if you've not had it, it's a revelation).

Travel itself may be limited this summer but I've found a delicious alternative to explore Crete this summer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aegean can't wait to cook!

The recipes inside the book are great so my stars are for the contents of the recipe book which I can't wait to to start cooking from. The book arrived exactly when Amazon said it would but that is where good things end. The condition of the book is appalling as every single corner of the front and back cover has been damaged also including the 4 corners of the spine, so it makes the book look like its second or third hand before I've even opened it. When I buy something NEW I expect it to look new and in pristine not look like it's been kicked around. Proper packaging would have gone a long way to prevent any damage to the contents of the parcel! Excellent cookery book but I will think twice before I order online again.

I spent a wonderful time in Crete this summer, so what better thing to do than to while away the winter months re-living the holiday through the pages of this lovely book. This is more than just a book of recipes, it is homage to the Greece and Crete, and its food. I love to pick it up and read the stories, as well as the recipes themselves which are perfectly adapted to the home cook. I am looking forward to cooking my way through to my next trip to Greece and I will certainly find time to go to Morito in Hackney before then.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning recipes, not just a cookbook but a story and a love letter to a cherished home.

Marianna has succeeded brilliantly in putting her passion and philosophy of food to paper. I've had the pleasure of working with her on and off for a decade and my main observation has been that she isn't just an intuitive chef but also a teacher. She discusses ingredients, processes and potentials, that makes service a learning experience rather than the do your best job it often is.
The food is bright, unpretentious and delicious, just like her!
Well done darling, it's wonderful x
