Vilnius TV Tower could house EU cyber security center

Lithuania's National Defense Ministry is suggesting using the TV Tower in Vilnius to house a EU cyber security center, informs LETA/BNS.

The initiative will be discussed by the government on Wednesday, October 21st.

Member states are expected to decide on the establishment of the European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Center in November and the center could start operating next year.

Besides Lithuania, Belgium, Romania and Spain also want to establish such a center.

A document drafted by the Ministry of National Defense says some 30-50 people could work at the TV Tower center.

Under the plan, Lithuania's contribution over five years of the center's operation would amount to around 1 million euros, and the center's operation will be funded by the EU.

"This center would become the EU's key instrument for the promotion of the European cyber security initiative and development of cyber security research and technology," the document reads.

At Lithuania's initiative, a group of EU member states established the EU Cyber Rapid Response Force.
