The American Friends of Likud welcomes the Dominican Republic's official statement that it is considering moving its Embassy to Jerusalem from its current location in Tel Aviv.
We express our gratitude to Dominican President Luis Abinader and Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez for the strength of their conviction and support for the State of Israel and deeply appreciate that the consideration to move the Embassy comes from a clear recognition that Jerusalem is the undisputed capital of the State of Israel.
As acknowledged in its official statement, the warm relationship between the Jewish people and the Dominican Republic dates back to the 15th century, when the first Jewish immigrants arrived there from Spain, continued during the Second World War, when it opened its borders to several thousand European Jewish refugees and climaxed in December 1948, when the Dominican Republic became one of the first countries to recognize Israel's right as a sovereign nation.
We look forward to a continued strong and prosperous connection between these two great nations.
