During the interwar period, a Lithuanian geography professor tries to convince the government to establish a backup state overseas to save their country from ruin. Working with carefully composed black-and-white shots, debuting director Karolis Kaupinis forges a witty, modern Don Quixote satire that is universally relevant.

About the film:

"Nova Lituania" examines Lithuania in 1938, drawing some sometimes uncomfortable parallels with the current state of world politics.

Winner of the Golden Athena Award for Best Picture at the Athens International Film Festival, five major awards at the Lithuanian Film Awards and Best Director at Wiesbaden goEast.

“Beautifully poker-faced…elegant, offbeat, relevant meticulous, intelligent, engaging" - Variety

“A droll period drama. Rewarding.” - The Guardian
