The current holiday period of December 2020 – January 2021 has highlighted increasing pressures on existing infrastructure along the Eyre Peninsula coastline with the number of visitors to the region.

Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula (RDAEP), Eyre Peninsula Local Government Association (EPLGA) and the Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board sought your thoughts and ideas by survey earlier in January and the results are now in.

It is critical for the Eyre Peninsula to generate adequate and ongoing revenue to reinvest into the protection, maintenance and improvement of our natural and built assets and renew our foreshore, reserves and camping facilities.

Over several years, the Eyes on Eyre project has gained momentum, a joint project led by RDAEP, Landscapes EP,  and Eyre Peninsula councils to attract funding to the region to address exactly the kind of problems highlighted over this holiday period. For the history of the project and up to date information, please check out this webpage.

An extensive consultation process was carried out in late 2018/ early 2019. It was generally agreed that although no-one wanted to see major development, soft upgrades of existing camping areas and amenities are required at many locations.  Several existing sites have been identified for stage 1 of the Eyes on Eyre project – view here the draft concept plans.
