Travel Massive Edinburgh meets Traveltech for Scotland Event Recap
Traveltech for Scotland was delighted to be part of Travel Massive Edinburgh’s first event of 2021.
It was great to meet more of the Travel Massive community at Travel Massive Edinburgh’s first event of 2021, on Thursday 28 January.
After introductions and updates from the Travel Massive Edinburgh chapter leaders Lesley, Susan and Katy, with a focus on the role of communities, including Travel Massive and Women in Tourism, we heard from Susan Russell, Head of Marketing, Underbelly, on how for the first time, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay had gone completely digital in 2020.
Susan shared some of the impressive audience engagement statistics and reminded us of the powerful combination of drone technology, poetry, music and film in the video clips she shared. We learned that the Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Fare Well piece has been viewed over 6.2 million times (direct views) on social channels and has generated around 650 pieces of media coverage. 150 drones were used in the piece, and this was Scotland’s first ever swarm drone show.
Josh Ryan-Saha, Director of Traveltech for Scotland, introduced the cluster’s aims and objectives and shared updates, also focusing on the power of community and letting people know how they can get involved.
We were then introduced to one of the entrepreneurs in the Traveltech for Scotland community, Elaine Ford, who shared information about her early-stage start-up, Electrek Explorer, a mobile app for electric vehicle tourism, offering opportunities for collaboration across the tourism sector in Scotland and striving to develop a solution towards a greener economy.
The event generated some great industry chat and facilitated valuable connections between members which was great to see. We look forward to more events in partnership with the Travel Massive community and thanks also to Ian Cumming and Maria Stoyanova of Travel Massive for their isupport for Traveltech for Scotland.
