WHAT WE ARE HONORING

Inspiration and impact by educators and news media in assuring that students understand the crucial role of journalism in society and the sometimes deadly risks for people who do this work.

TWO QUESTIONS TO ANSWER

These are the two key questions you need to answer about your activity:

1What do you do?

Description of your actions that align with the award theme

2. How do you know it works?

The results, however you measure them (including how you assure its financial sustainability).

Upon registering, we'll send you instructions about where to send the entry itself.

TWO CRITERIA IN THE JUDGING

1. Inspiration - Creativity of the activity and its adaptability to other countries (for USA teachers, that means less reliance on the First Amendment as a foundation than on Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

2. Impact - Effectiveness of the initiative in serving, supporting, attracting and learning from young audiences, especially as evidenced by measurable impact and economic sustainability. These are key elements.

ONE NOTE - Upon submitting your entry, know that you acknowledge that are giving us permission to share it both with the jury members and, if we think it’s great, more widely, attributing it to you, of course.

SOME TIPS

• Remember to keep firmly in mind the teaching topics this award addresses:

1. Why journalism is crucial for a democracy

2. Threats and dangers to journalists

• No matter what format, be sure to include information that identifies you at the beginning.

• Remember that the judges are all English speakers, so if an element is important for them to consider, translate it  or provide a summary in English.

• You can use the contact form below to ask any questions you may have.
