“The water’s crashin’ trying to keep your head up high. While you’re trembling, that’s when the magic happens. And the stars gather by, by your side. Sayin’ rise up to the light in the sky. Let the light lift your heart up. Burn your flame through the night. Spirit, watch the heavens open. Spirit, can you hear it callin’?” – lyrics

‘Spirit’ tells an exhilarating tale which encourages listeners to rise up and fight the necessary fight in order for them to fulfill their destinies.

However, the battle to succeed in one’s life consists of a spiritual journey. Therefore, you should be one in spirit or in tune with The Great I Am to achieve great things.

“This is sonic cinema. This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip-hop, and Afrobeat. I wanted to put everyone on their own journey to link the storyline. Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.” – Beyoncé

‘The Lion King: The Gift’ features new recordings by Beyoncé. Also, it highlights a beautiful, multi-genre symphony, steeped in African influences from various corners of the Continent.

The project consists of unexpected collaborations, pulsating rhythms, and crisp production which celebrate the African diaspora.

“The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa, and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa and not just, you know, use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it. I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa.” – Beyoncé stated via Good Morning America
