Nava Adè – “In the Dark” music video

“Baby, lay your head on my pillow. Baby, you are safe. You are safe with me. Baby, let your guard down. I’ma be the one that you can count on. Baby, I’m your sanctuary. I know for you the world can get a little crazy. In my arms, you can find your solitude. Skin to skin, baby, you can feel it when we’re nude. In the dark, in my arms is where you’ll find refuge. In the dark, come close to me. Let me love you.” – lyrics

‘In the Dark’ tells an intimate tale about a young woman who shares a passionate relationship with her significant other. Apparently, sparks fly every time they turn the lights down low and immersed themselves in darkness. Later, the woman admits that she has lots of love to give to her partner, any time he needs it.

The Moeysha Ashley-directed video, which centers around Black love, finds Nava Adè and her partner spending some quality time together in the comfort of their home.

“In my arms is where you’ll find refuge.”

“I think people are fearful of the dark, but I personally love the vulnerability and potential for the intimacy it brings. The song is about capturing that feeling of finding refuge and solitude in the arms of another. It’s warm, it’s sensual, and conceptually quite intimate.” – Nava Adè explained

Nava Ade’s Ugandan and Nigerian heritage plays a huge part in her wanderlust for discovering new places and exciting sounds. Ade’s natural penchant for songwriting came as a young girl, but it wasn’t until she started traveling to East Africa and South America solo that she took the leap into pursuing music full-time. She cites iconic ‘90s songstresses such as India.Arie, Erykah Badu, and Aaliyah as her most profound influences. Also, Ade’s music is as reminiscent of the golden era of R&B as it is future-facing.

“I just want to be a great storyteller and make people feel at ease while being stimulated by sound. I’m content knowing that I’m able to do what I love; the art is the ultimate reward.” – Nava Adè explained

‘In the Dark’ contains a relationship-based narrative, ear-pleasing vocalization, and tuneful melodies. The sensual tune possesses vibey instrumentation flavored with a warm contemporary R&B vibration. Furthermore, “In the Dark” follows mildly on the heels of Nava Adè’s ‘80s funk-infused debut single, entitled, “Body.” Also, the song serves as a tasty appetizer to what listeners can expect to hear on Adè’s upcoming debut EP.
