The Iditarod is an epic event. It’s 1,000 miles of sledding that begins north of Anchorage and ends on the Bering Sea, in the gold-rush town of Nome. Covid aside, it’s an annual logistics marvel. Dozens of pilots—the Iditarod Air Force—brave wild weather to fly some 700 sorties, dropping thousands of pounds of food, supplies and people in the wilderness.
