Arrival of Starlink to enable smart business across Lithuania – minister

BNS 2021.06.04 17:40

With the arrival of Starlink in Lithuania, smart businesses will be able to develop anywhere in the country, Lithuanian Economy Minister Aušrinė Armonaitė said on Friday.

"It means that we in Lithuania will in fact be able to develop smart businesses that need good internet infrastructure, good accessibility and fast speed anywhere – in a forest, in a cabin by a lake, anywhere,” she told BNS on Friday. “That's a huge thing, and I believe it's important for both residents and businesses.”

The arrival of Starlin, a satellite internet project by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, shows that Lithuania is capable of attracting big businesses from the United States, according to Armonaitė.

She also said the worker relocation package the Lithuanian parliament is set to consider next week will be important not only for Belarusian but also for American and Canadian companies.

Starlink Lithuania was registered on Wednesday with Starlink Holdings Netherlands as its sole shareholder and Lauren Dreye, SpaceX's director of human resources and business operations, as its CEO, according to information from the Lithuanian Centre of Registers.

There are currently more than 1,100 Starlink satellites in the Earth's orbit. The space internet connection network is planned to increase over time to 12,000 satellites.
