We're kicking off the summer season with a special event this Friday â our annual Pollination Celebration for National Pollinator Week. We had to skip last year for obvious reasons, but it's back and better than ever!
Why are we celebrating pollinators?
According to the Xerces Society: "Pollinators are essential to our environment. The ecological service they provide is necessary for the reproduction of over 85% of the worldâs flowering plants, including more than two-thirds of the worldâs crop species. The United States alone grows more than 100 crops that either need or benefit from pollinators, and the economic value of these native pollinators is estimated at $3 billion per year in the U.S."
(So...without pollinators, would we even exist?!)
Let's learn together how to create healthy habitats for all kinds of pollinators in our own yards and communities. All while supporting local farms, businesses, and organizations who are working to support pollinators and thus protecting life for all!
