The aim of the Exchange Programme 2021-2022 is to share knowledge and to stimulate collaboration between health care professionals in European Reference Networks (ERN). In 2021 and 2022, three different rounds of exchanges will take place between professionals of HealthCare Providers (HCP's) that are member of an ERN. The objective of the Exchange Programme is to palliate disparities in specific knowledge or gaps in expertise by facilitating the arrival of high-level expertise in a considerable number of diseases to a big number of Healthcare Providers.

As an HCP you can be involved in these exchanges! In this online tool you can get inspiration from already planned exchanges and see how the programme can be used by you or your institution, allowing the whole network to benefit. The costs of the exchanges (travel costs, travel insurance, per diems for subsistence costs) are covered, research institute Ecorys will take care of all the logistics. You need to connect with other members to make a concrete 'visit plan' with the content details of the exchange. An exchange can take place for at least 5 days.

Interested in an exchange with another HCP?

The programme offers many possibilities for exchanges. Therefore you are required to meet the goals of the ERKNet with the exchange. The central office of ERKNet need to approve your exchange, since the number of exchanges is limited. During each exchange one or more professionals will travel to another HCP, that HCP will host the visit. As a hosting center, it is important to make sure that there is a clear 'visit plan' for the professionals who will visit the center.

Possibilities for exchanges
11
We are envisioning two typical scenarios for this programme:

1) A senior clinician expert from an ERKNet member centre is invited to visit another ERKNet member of Affiliated Partner centre for one week to share specific expertise, e.g. in lectures, ward rounds and rare disease outpatient clinics. The expert could be accompanied by 1-2 other specialists from other fields (e.g. nephropathologist, lab expert, specialized nurse, etc.)

2) A fellow or junior nephrologist/pediatric nephrologist from an Affiliated Member centre travels to a renowned ERKNet member centre to receive hands-onsite training.

12
All exchange visits should be focussed on one or more of the following priorities:
- Knowledge generation
- Patient involvment, Patient Journey generation
- Guideline development
13
14
Who can apply
15
The programme is open to clinicians and other groups of healthcare professionals (e.g. nutritionists, specialized nurses and technicians) and invites both junior trainees and senior experts. Both the visitors and the hosts have to be members of ERKNet member or Affiliated Partner institutions.
16
17
Facts about the visit packages:
18
- A total of 40-45 visit one-week funding packages are available to ERKNet
- These packages can be used in three rounds of exchange (March-Aug 21, Sep 21 – Feb 22, March -Aug 22)
- Each package includes travel expenses plus 5*200€/day for accommodation and other expenses
- Packages can be combined to allow two or more professionals (e.g. from different fields of specialty) to travel to the same hosting centre.
- For longer trips, 2 packages for one person can also be combined.
