Not Really

Madness Wars is finishing. But not really.

It is releasing on the world and can be enjoyed for all time. It is dark. It is terrifying and it is heartbreaking, but more than anything, The Madness Wars stinks of hope.

I am exhausted. But not really.

I have been on this emotional ride for two years. One release after the next, six months apart. I would get one of the books out and a month later have to start the publishing process all over again. Out to the editor, cover design, rereads by Bekah. Drafts again. Reconsidering. Making sure every word is how I want it and every scene is ready to go and as powerful as I can make it. However all of this work is invigorating to me and every release focused me on the next.

It was a whirlwind. But not really.

I started publishing The Madness Wars in 2019 but I started writing it in 2011. The first of the books broke ground while I was still living in Milwaukee, in a small dining room with my desk tucked in the corner, which was actually the middle of the room five feet from Bekah’s. No place to put our coats when we walked in the door. Nowhere to keep things quiet when Rayph was awake and running and screaming through the house. Rextur was with me there. Aaron the Marked and his hate and hope all met me there and began to whisper their horror to me. I will finally be done with this series in 2021, so this story has been 11 years in the making.

I am tired of this story. But not really.

I am ready for the next part but not tired of this one. There are so many things I am proud of from this tale and so many different facets at work here that it is very hard to get tired of the characters and the settings. I will miss many of the characters who are dead but also I will continue to write others. Many stories are just getting started in this series and I am excited about what will happen next.

I am ready to have it off of my desk. But not really.

I was never more alive than when I was writing some of these scenes. Enjoyed the random comment a reader would make about the horror of waiting six months for the next book. I am ready to move on. I have so many more stories to tell and so many more directions I want to take you that when April 15th comes and The Madness Wars is done, I will move on.

And I will move on. But not really.

Part of me will forever be trapped in Tienne and Drine. Part of me will never leave that dungeon in Madneen, will never be let out of that dog pen with Cursed. And will never forget the joy of meeting Ithyryyn for the first time. I am moving on but still will survive in The Madness Wars forever.

Forge of Souls

In two days I will release a new short story that will add to The Silent War of the Sour Eye saga. This is meant to be read after The Madness Wars and I really do not recommend that you look at it before the entire story of the struggle of the two nations has been read. Look for Forge of Souls in two days, a second release coming to you on April 15th.
