Did you know why Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia need the gauge of 1435 mm, instead the old one, 1520 mm wide? 🤔 In almost all #EU countries, the rail network consists of a standard gauge of 1435 mm, yet, in Baltic states the railway network is 1520 mm wide. It was inherited from the Soviet era, and it is a major barrier to connecting trains to Europe nowadays. Moreover, almost 60% of entire global rail network consists of a 1435 mm wide gauge, that is way it is called the standard one. This gauge spread around the world with the export of locomotives made in the UK. 🌍 However, geopolitical factors determined different wide gauges around countries. #sustainability #railnetwork #gauge #RailBalticarailway #lietuvosgelezinkeliai #lithuanianrailways

More than half of the country's population say that they would travel more often by train after the construction of the new European railway #RailBaltica. Experts say that the project should help Lithuania get closer to the climate policy goals of the European Union. 🇪🇺 🌱 ✅ Silvestras Dikčius, the ambassador of the European Climate Pact and an enthusiast of sustainable travel, believes that Rail Baltica can also have a "soft power" effect, changing our habits, where and how we travel. 🚶♀️ 🚉 🚲 💬 "A new and, most importantly, environmentally friendly option is emerging. In my opinion, this is exactly how we should move in the direction of the Green Deal. Not by creating restrictions, but by presenting new, modern alternatives", says S. Dikčius. 💬 "Convenient, higher quality and safe transportation is one of the main goals of Rail Baltica, both in terms of new connections with Europe, regional travel, and trips in our country", - says Vytis Zalimas, the CEO of LTG Infra, the company responsible for the implementation of the Rail Baltica project in Lithuania. #futureintrain #LTGInfra #CEFTransport

🇱🇹 🇱🇻 🇪🇪 Representatives of the three Baltic countries, including LTG Group's expert team, visited 🇪🇸 Spain last week, where they were presented with this country's experience in railway infrastructure maintenance. During the visit, the technical maintenance depots of Spanish companies were visited. "The idea of the trip was born by the employees of the LTG Group in cooperation with the consultants who are preparing the operation concept of #RailBaltica. During the visit, we visited the high-speed train repair depot, which was opened four years ago, as well as locomotive and infrastructure maintenance depots, and a train driver training center with locomotive simulators. The track change mechanism was demonstrated to us too," said Lukas Miglinas, representative of LTG Infra Rail Baltica management. 🤝 The specialists of ADIF, which manages the Spanish railway infrastructure, presented the country's infrastructure maintenance strategy, LTG team also met with the variable gauge train manufacturers Talgo - passenger trains of this manufacturer, due to their technological features, reduces infrastructure wear by 30% compared to other manufacturers. In Spain, as in Lithuania, railway tracks of different widths are operated. Lietuvos Geležinkeliai LTG Link LTG Cargo #futureintrain #LTGInfra #CEFTransport

✅ 🛤 Land acquisition works for public needs for the #RailBaltica section from Kaunas (Jiesia) to the Lithuanian-Polish border will be provided by three Lithuanian companies. Services for 7.42 million EUR (without VAT) will be provided by Tyrens Lietuva, Atamis and the state company Žemės ūkio duomenų centras. "The connection with Poland will ensure a new, higher standard high-speed railway connection with Western Europe. It is planned that the special plan for this section will be approved by the Government in May, so we are carrying out works in parallel - we are signing contracts for land purchase activities - so that after the plan is approved, we can move smoothly and quickly to land purchase activities", says Mantas Jasikonis, LTG Infra Rail Baltica program manager. The length of the main European railway line with regional connections is about 100 km. After the construction of Rail Baltica, the train journey from Kaunas to Warsaw will take 3.5 hours, and from Vilnius we will reach the Polish capital in just over 4 hours.⏱ ⏩ #futureintrain #LTGInfra #CEFTransport

🏗 In the Jonava district, the contours of the main railway line are becoming clearer - a railway bed and engineering structures are being built in a section of almost 30 kilometers. Some of the engineering structures, such as the animal crossing, one of the tunnels, are almost finished. ✅ Construction works are taking place on two sections of the section towards the Latvian border - the 10 km section from Šveicarija to Žeimiai and the 17.7 km section from Žeimiai to Šėta. ⏩ "Rail Baltica, a strategic project for Lithuania and Europe as a whole, is currently in the active construction stage. We are working with a project of a unique scale - that requires non-standard solutions. Therefore, continuous cooperation with the contractors performing the work is an integral part of the daily work", said Vytis Zalimas, head of the LTG Infra, the company responsible for the implementation of the Rail Baltica project in Lithuania. According to Gediminas Gribulis, General Director of Fegda grupė, UAB, the challenges in this section are deep excavations, high embankments, high groundwater level: "During the works, really large amounts of soil are excavated, the logistics of which are not standard compared to normal projects. 300 people are currently working in construction. As the volume of work increases, the number of workers at the construction sites will increase to 450." #futureintrain #RailBaltica #LTGInfra #CEFTransport
