Zwicky Transient Facility

Mission Characteristics

Description: ZTF is a fully-automated, wide-field survey aimed at a systematic exploration of the optical transient sky.
Survey Coverage: Approximately 25,000 to 30,000 square degrees, the Northern sky visible from Palomar Observatory.
Survey Duration: Since 2018-03-17
Telescope: Samuel Oschin Telescope 48-inch Schmidt at Palomar
Instruments: 16 6k x 6k CCDs filling the focal plane with a 47 sq. deg. field of view.
Filters: ZTF_g, ZTF_r, ZTF_i
Acknowledgement: Supported by the National Science Foundation under Grants No. AST-1440341 and AST-2034437 and a collaboration including current partners Caltech, IPAC, the Oskar Klein Center at Stockholm University, the University of Maryland, University of California, Berkeley , the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, University of Warwick, Ruhr University, Cornell University, Northwestern University and Drexel University. Operations are conducted by COO, IPAC, and UW.

IRSA Services

Image Access Interactive access to ZTF data.
Catalog Query Access the ZTF catalogs through IRSA's Catalog Search service. Lightcurve results can be sent to IRSA's Time Series Tool.
Moving Object Search Tool (MOST) Determine the orbit for a given solar system object then find ZTF images that covered the object's predicted positions at their observation epochs.
Time Series Tool Plot time series data, view associated images, find period, and phase fold. This tool is also accessible through the Catalog Search.
Browse Data Browseable directories of ZTF data. See metadata documentation.
Image/Catalog File Program Interface API documentation to create scripts to query and retrieve ZTF data products, including cutouts.
Image Metadata Descriptions of the metadata that describe the ZTF images. These metadata are used in both the API and web GUI.
Lightcurve Program Interface API documentation for ZTF lightcurve data.
Lightcurve Bulk Download Bulk download of ZTF lightcurves in Parquet format (Documentation in Section 12c of release notes).
