STOP Spillover releases Year 3 annual report.

More than 70 percent of new, emerging, and re-emerging infectious diseases originate from animals. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrates the tremendous global risks that can occur when zoonotic diseases spill over to humans.

Strategies to Prevent (STOP) Spillover, a USAID-funded project led by Tufts University, is a global consortium of experts in human, animal, and environmental health focused on:

  • Understanding the risk factors that contribute to viral spillover from animals to humans
  • Implementing interventions at spillover points to prevent zoonotic disease
  • Assessing risk reduction practices and policies to prevent spillover and mitigate amplification and spread of disease
