Kia ora Corey,
Last week, we sent out A Christian response to suggested “Hate Speech” law changes, and some proposed re-wording. We also shared this article with the denominational heads of the National Church Leaders Aotearoa New Zealand (NCLANZ) and Auckland Church Leaders Meeting.
Here is some of the feedback we received:
“You've given a clear and calm summary of the problems with the proposals, and you've suggested a constructive alternative. Well done!” – Tim Wilson, ED Maxim
“Thank you so much for this email, I 100% agree with what you have written and how it has been written.” - Ps Paul Allen-Baines
“This is so helpful!” – Nicole
“Nice to see a Christian organization getting involved in a ‘controversial topic’” – Peter
We have made PDF versions of this article available and have also posted it on our website.
Earlier today, Stuart sent in NZCN's submission to the Ministry of Justice on the proposed changes to "Hate Speech" laws.
I have sent both these documents to nearly 3000 Christian churches and their ministers this afternoon and would appreciate it if you could ensure that your church leadership has received the message by forwarding this directly email to them.
If you feel able to make a submission to the Ministry of Justice on the proposed changes to “Hate Speech” laws, we encourage you to do so using your own words. If you want to quote something from our submission, use exact quotes in quotation marks and say where you got it from.
Above all, your submission must be respectful and accurate, otherwise it seriously undermines and discredits Christian feedback.
Nga mihi nui,
