Hello! I'm Vael, and I run Arkose, a field-building nonprofit with the mission of improving the safety of advanced AI systems to reduce potential large-scale risks.

I was previously a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University, as a fellow with HAI and CISAC. There, I interviewed AI researchers on their perspectives on current AI and the future of AI, with a focus on risks from advanced systems.
Previously, I completed my PhD in Tom Griffiths's Computational Cognitive Science Lab at UC Berkeley / Princeton University. While unrelated to my current work, I had a great time working on computational models of social cognition.
