Increased protections for South Australian subcontractors came into effect on 1 July 2021.

The amendments to the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2009 were the result of an independent review and a national review of similar Acts by John Murray AM.

The new laws increase the registration threshold for adjudicators, with approved adjudicators then bound by a Code of Conduct.

Breaches of certain aspects of the Code could result in a fine of up to $5,000, or an expiation of $210.
