Invites expressions of interest in purchasing a copy of Dance Therapy Redefined: A Body Approach to Therapeutic Dance
We are seeking expressions of interest in purchasing a copy of the book Dance Therapy Redefined, by Hanny Exiner and Denis Kelynack. Published in 1994, this is an important publication in terms of Dance Movement Therapy development and history in Australasia and deserves to be read by the current generation of dance movement therapists.

The book has been out of print for some time, and it is very difficult now to find even second-hand copies online. Following discussions at a recent HEMF meeting it was decided to try and rectify this situation. The book is still under copyright of Publishers Charles C. Thomas, Pub. Ltd, Springfield USA who are willing to do a special very small print run for our Australasian Dance Movement Therapy community. It would help us gauge numbers to order, if anyone interested in purchasing a copy, could let us know. You would not be under any obligation to purchase.

Book One:
Foundations of Dance/Movement Therapy: The Life and Work of Marian Chace (1993)
Edited by S. Sandel, S. Chaiklin, and A. Lohn. (472 pages and includes pictures)
This book contains all the original papers of Marian Chace, one of the first to develop, write and teach about her understanding of the use of dance in mental health. It is organized by topics and includes a biography of Chace. Eight additional articles are included written by practitioners to further develop basic concepts.

Book Two:

Dance Therapy Notebook (1998)
Joan L. Naess Lewin (110 pages)
This book documents the clinical practice of an experienced dance therapist working in long-term, interpersonal treatment. It is a poignant and well-written reflection of her work using a developmental approach. It organizes and clarifies the process used and is appropriate for both beginning and experienced clinicians.

Book Three:

Movement Reflections (2016) (119 pages)
Movement Reflections is a limited edition book created by the Marian Chace Foundation to commemorate ADTA’s 50th Anniversary. It includes early photographs of dance/movement therapists, historical information, and over 50 quotes from the MCF Bookmark collection each presented with pages on which readers can write their own reflective statements.

INVITATION TO COLLABORATE WITH RESEARCH

I invite you, in your role as a dance movement therapist, to collaborate in the research "Moments of meeting in DMT: Facilitating and hindering factors according to therapist’s experience.”

This research seeks to take a partial picture of how key moments of intersubjective encounters between therapist and patient/client are formed, in order to contribute to the assessment and growth of our discipline.

I would like to hear from dance movement therapists, like yourself, who could share accounts from individual therapy sessions with patients/ clients.

The collaboration consists of filling out an online questionnaire (2 minutes), sign an informed consent form, and participating in a 40-minute moving interview via Zoom in August or September 2021.

The event will be live streamed with chat and interactive discussion sessions, and conference recordings will be available to all registrants for two months following the event.

Advanced Clinical Training in Somatics and Dance Movement Therapy

Clinical training in Dance Movement therapy is essential to the field and a way to get new members joining the DTAA.

This course is designed as a postgraduate level course for Allied Health Professionals wanting to develop their professional capability to work in a Somatic Psychodynamic Movement Therapy manner with their clients.

Entry into the course requires a qualification in movement/dance/bodywork or other Allied Health disciplines.

The therapeutic use of movement assists us to change within and in relationship to others.

As we change our mode of action, our image of ourselves also changes. - Who am I? - How do I move? - Which parts of me work to express myself? - Where does my movement initiate? - Does my mind lead or follow? - Do I trust my body?

Most of human interaction is non-verbal and therapy is lacking if we don’t utilise this information, therefore we must enhance our skills in observing the non-verbal; generally presented to us in movement, gesture, posture, and expression.

In this course we introduce students to a framework and vocabulary for grasping this non-verbal data.

There are 5 Contact Modules associated with this course. Each Module consists of smaller individual subjects. The introductory modules can be studied as independent short courses for Professional Development and available both face to face and via live streaming.

Event One: Fundamentals of Dance Movement Therapy: Weekend Training [offered online and in-person (Auckland NZ)]

Available online or in-person. This introductory weekend workshop is a prerequisite for and forms the first part of the Certificate in Dance Movement Therapy. It is open to everyone who has an interest in and enthusiasm for dance therapy. $345 Regular Rate, $295 Early Bird Discount (fee to be paid before Friday 1st October 2021). If you are interested in attending an inspirational weekend and for a 'taster' to see if Dance Movement Therapy is for you, please follow the link below to register.

Once you have completed the Foundation Module, you are able to apply for the Certificate in Dance Movement Therapy (online attendance options available), which begins April 2022. This year-long Certificate consists of five additional weekend modules plus placement hours and tutorials.

April - December 2022

Event Two: Certificate in Dance Movement Therapy [online or in-person (Auckland, NZ)]

Available online! This low-residence, one year, part time programme includes 6 weekend modules plus tutorials & self-study, enabling international students to attend via live online learning. The course is experiential, utilising current DMT practice & tools to develop embodied skills and understanding. This is supported by a strong theoretical base and will be delivered by both local and international guest teachers who are experts in the field of DMT.

The Foundation Module offered on 6-7 November 2021 is a prerequisite before applying to undertake the Certificate in Dance Movement Therapy starting April 2022, however if you miss this weekend, you may be able to do a makeup Foundation Module and still enrol in the Certificate.

February - December 2022 (Monthly Seminars)

Event Three: Advanced Clinical Practicum in Dance Movement Therapy [online or in-person (Auckland, NZ)]

Available online! For those who have completed a Certificate in Dance Movement Therapy (or equivalent) and wish to go on to develop further skills in working with groups and/or to practice individual DMT, the Advanced Clinical Practicum in DMT is a pathway to Provisional Professional Membership with DTAA.

During the low residency, one year, part time course, students attend monthly online seminars with experienced DMT Clinicians (with two weekend intensives that can be attended online or in person in Auckland). Students also work independently with their chosen population in their local area, while receiving extensive DMT clinical supervision to support their learning and integration of DMT Clinical and/or Community-based Practice.
