Squirrel News is a free constructive news app. Our team of independent journalists collect the most important solutions-based stories from across the international media landscape, and curate them into compact, digestible issues.

We currently publish our issues three times per week: on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. As soon as an issue is ready, we’ll inform you about it via push notification.

Are you irked by the fact that most mainstream news consists of conflicts, scandals, wars and disasters? Then you've come to the right place. We collect solution-oriented news stories for you, which otherwise might be tricky to find: for example, reports on innovative ideas and solutions to social challenges, examples of best practice, and stories of success, to name but a few.
A NON-PROFIT PROJECT
Our app is 100% free of charge, and we’d like to avoid advertising as much as possible. To cover our costs, we rely on regular voluntary donations. Squirrel News is a project of the newly founded non-profit Constructive News e.V. – meaning that all revenues are reinvested into the project – and we won’t keep any profits for ourselves.

Just flicking through the stories summaries in the app, I like the information - it's just what I've been looking for. However, what I don't like is that it absolutely insists on me using Chrome to read the full story. I've deliberately deactivated Chrome on my phone, and there's no URL shown anywhere to allow me to copy/paste into the browser of my choice. Please make the browser choice an option to make your app usable for people who don't want Google snooping on every aspect their lives.

Hi, thanks for your feedback! In fact, there is already an option to use another browser or to copy the URL from the teaser screens: You get there by clicking on the sharing icon in the menu bar on the bottom (the second from the left). This should solve your problem, right? Best, Jonathan

Great project. For the app: I found the app navigation counterintuitive (no back button, no search function, you click to select the issue but then you swipe to get to the issue contents). But the content is great and worth putting up with these annoyances

Thanks for your feedback! And sorry for the navigation problems. We're already planning to add a search function and to add more back buttons. Could you describe your problem with the podcast a bit more in detail though? And did you know that you can choose either between scrolling and swiping in the settings? Best, Jonathan

Great app, they pull a wide variety of articles together. If you're a bit of an idiot like myself, you access the articles by swiping left and right, not up and down (Hah).
